Just studying the rr's between the Mechanicville NY yard and the junction with the D&H north to Canada and south to Schenectady. Did B&M and D&H used to have separate routes between Mechanicville and the junction? When were they combined and who's route is being used? They all split off oddly again at the junction (wye). I can't see any trace of where the abandoned route was. Must have been a stones throw from the existing route.

An obvious followup question is how for does the NS's fall 2015 ownership extend into this area and where do the trackage right on Pan Am South begin.

It's really not trackage rights. from Mechanicsville to Ayer MA it's a joint ownership of the Fitchburg line. NS has poured tons of money upgrading the line to 40 mph running. There were rumors that NS was going to buy PanAm outright after they purchased part of the D&H but with CP bid to buy NS who knows.
So did B&M have its own route west of Mechanicsville?
Just saw a NS and Pan Am double header down here in Hanover TWP PA last week. A few years ago, I saw a Pan Am caboose in the same location. BNSF also bid on NS. I wish I could carry a camera with me at work.

If you do a google search you can find maps of the B&M and it looks like it goes west of Mechanicsville, by how much it's hard to tell

Did you get the numbers of the PanAm's ?
The B&M operated as far west as Rotterdam Junction where it interchanged with the New York Central.

No, I got to the crossing just as the engines had passed.

Where was the other track removed west of Mechanicville...there is no sign of it at all. Unless the track in use is the B&M and D&H abandoned their route which heads Northwest to Ballston Spa.
