I need a barn for O scale layout. MTH barns are huge and seem to overpower everything else (16 1/2, 18 3/4 x 9 1/2). Plasticville barns seem too small and unrealistick (a lot of their stuff is cool). Something about 10" x 15" x 7.5" seems appropriate. That equates to a 40 x 60 x 30, real barn. I guess I'll have to build my own. I have built real barns, but never a model. Any suggestions?

I've got a red ERTL Farm Country barn that is 1/64 scale. Not as obtrusive as the MTH barns. The playset included a blue silo, windmill and fences for livestock pens and some 1/64 livestock. I"ve also seen a white dairy barn playset. Check out the auction sites looking for ERTL Farm Country.

BTS makes a nice barn in o scale. you can look at it on their website or on valleymodeltrains.com. you can see some other more unusual ones (tobacco barn for example). go to the search box and enter barn and all barns in all scales will come up or do the same on the O scale page.

Rustic structures such as barns make perfect first scratch building projects. They are easily done in balsa-sheathed matboard, and are very forgiving. Go for it!
