All:

I have some mini fans (12VDC) that I would like to supply with power.  They come with 2 wires mated to a white plastic male connector that snaps into a socket (you see them on PC boards and in all sort of uses - they are extremely common).  I could always cut off the connector and use Posi-Locks to hook them up to individual wires from a power supply.  But my curiosity got the better of me and now I have some very basic questions:

  1. What are these called?  (It's really hard to search for something when you can't put a name to it)IMG_2423IMG_2422
  2. What are the sockets called?
  3. What's the typical wire gauge used in these connectors?
  4. Is it possible to get multiple jumpered sockets (like a terminal block with a bus bar)?
  5. What's a good place to get them?  If you suggest Digi-Key, please specify a catalog page number and item number (trying to navigate that catalog makes my head explode).
  6. Does connecting the wires to the plastic require soldering?

Many thanks!

George
