After reading some of the topics here, what would happen if the batteries were installed backwards?

Try it, let us know. I'm not willing to do it.
Uh, me neither
The remote just won't work. Been there, done that for a minute or two.
Good to know Barry, I like it when someone else tests stuff like that.
Good to know Barry, thanks!
Guys,
It wasn't exactly a test.
I accidentally put the batteries in reversed and didn't realize it for several minutes. As expected, no harm done.

I did it myself just recently.
It actually made my loco's run smoother and the sound was so much crisper.
Well that's a fib but I did just put the batteries in wrong and sure enough the sun rose again the next morning.
Many items that use batteries have the terminal that is to touch the positive post of the batteries set in a recess, so that the other end of the battery wouldn't touch the contact. I don't know offhand if the remote is set up that way--am not willing to open it just to find out.

Actually Barry, it was a test, just an unintentional one!
