i have 3 MTH locos and am considering installing a BCR in them to avoid any future problems. 2 of them look like 9 volt batteries, and one looks like this. It says ps2 on the chassis but does this kind need to be replaced, and if so, where do I find a BCR to fit this setup. Thanks in advance.

The one in the photo uses a BCR2 it's the later 3 volt system The one that looks like the 9 volt is for the earlier 5 volt PS2 or the Proto 1.
Gene, thank you for the input. Looked at J and W site and they said on the BCR2 check your instructions to find out if it is 3 volt or 2.4 volt. Bought this used, no book with it. How can I be sure which voltage is right?

What color are the 2.4 volt? For future reference.
The 3volt is 2.4 volts. The 9 volt battery is for the 5 volt system.
You need a BCR2 (or its equivalent, et al) for the pictured engine.
The light blue wrapped 2.4V NiCd AA batteries are "3V". (superseded by this NiMH pack)
The NiMH AAA packs are green and functionally identical. They were used when AA pack was too big.
