I hope all of you reading this will bear with this story that has a good ending. I have built 6 different O guage layouts in my 80 years on this earth, from the traditional pinpong table when I was a kid to a 26x22 in my rec room and various sizes in between. Over the past year, after my wife passed away, I decided to downsize and sell my home. This presented me with a problem of what to do the latest of my layouts (12x12) and accessories. I was moving to an apartment  with my son. The apartment has 3 bedrooms so I had an extra bedroom but would require some access space around it so the layout would have to be smaller. I figured I could make layout 9.5x9.5 with an insert for middle access

The next problem, however, was how to construct it! I could not start hauling in lumber, sawing and banging around with neighbors all around me. I started looking on line, YouTube, and magazines. I found an Ad for Miannebenchwork in OGR which had a video which looked like it was just what I needed. I called them and reached Tim who answered all my questions. I sent him my drawing and the rest is history. Anyone who needs benchwork, I would highly recommend Mianne. It is easy to work with and fit perfectly.

I don't have Mianne benchwork, but my good Forum friend, Melgar, has it, he is very happy with it, and I have seen it in person and it looks and seems great in all respects.

I built my benchwork for my current layout literally "by the book" about 25 years ago. I bought a booket at one on my LHSs about how to construct benchwork. That booklet, which I still have stored away, explained how to build various styles of model railroad benchwork, such as open grid, but I opted for a simpler and easier to build style of benchwork for my long and narrow, around the walls, shelf/table top layout using seven or eight 4 by 8 plywood boards for an around the walls shelf/table top style switching layout that ranges from 48 to 51 inches height and the trains essentially run on the same level or grade throughout my layout It has a solid foundation, which I believe is essential for the trains to operate well over many years. The layout is about 35 feet long and the width ranges from 30 to 48 inches. I post a lot of photos and videos on this Forum so you can check it out there if you like.

I worked like a maniac when I designed and constructed my current layout over a 6 month period, and I have tinkered with it ever since. I am glad I did the hard initial work constructing it when I was 25 years younger than my current 68 years. It was hard work to build it but also exhilerating.

Walter, I believe you are making an excellent decision choosing Mianne Benchwork. I hope you thoroughly enjoy buiding your 7th layout.

I admire you, Walter, for building a layout on your own at your age. Indeed, you are an inspiration for doing so. I bet you are physically and mentally robust to be willing to do it. Arnold
