Center loop is completed, just the rest of the spline is needed for the lower staging. Then work can begin inside the loop.
Lower staging is also mostly in an working on the three way switch to feed it.

That looks great, love the 3 way. You really have quite the railroad going there....
Beautiful work!
Beautiful carpentry and 100% wood construction. That's the way I prefer it. This is getting to be a place where all the best carpenters, engineers, technicians and scenic artists hang out!!!!! Like that 3 way switch. I was thinking of using one but these require that you wire in a relay to insure continuity and prevent shorts.
wow you have done a ton of work in a short time!! Great!
WOW!

Being DCC, I use hex frog juicers for all manual turnouts. It's not cheap but it is foolproof
And staging is finished.
I would love to come up there this summer!
anytime, I'll put you to work

I like the curved benchwork...is there a method to building this? I would like to do that for both ends of my layout.
This pix will help. Decide what the radius will be and use a center to plot out the 1x2's In this pix it's the black screw in the middle. Everything radiates out from this point. The benchwork is standard L girder.
That's very helpful, thanks.
Do you screw in the curved fascia portion - and is that a 1x4 or maybe a thin piece of ripped plywood?
I am always amazed at how we modelers find ways to get our layouts in the space provided. I just worry about the need to replace vents, ducts, washers dryers, freezers and funances.

Yes, it's 1/4" ply or Luan. I use a staple gun and glue where it hits the supports. I end up with three layers which really adds support.

You are right, but the furnace guy and my plumber told me what they needed and I went right up it their measurements Plus, I replaced everything thing in this house so it should last longer then me!
I love guys who are all in....and you are that guy! My furnace guy looked at me like I was crazy when I told him I wanted to move several hot water pipes to run a bridge track over the furnace and out into the other room.
They just don't understand. This is the price we pay for model RR glory!
Keep up the great work!
Don
nice progress!!!

Thanks Don. My plumber was the same way when I had the water heater and softener moved around the corner.
Very nice.......lots of progress noted! Tom in Picksburgh
Three way is installed and tested for lower staging. As of now I only have enough track on the other side to run one engine through the switch all three ways. The last step will be connecting to the upper part of the layout.
Dan
Looking good! Feels good to be "almost" done, doesn't it?
Those 3 ways save a lot of real estate.
Malcolm
Hey is that the new bundle of joy?....Name?....
Dan

Yes, untill I look at all the smaller yards and scenery that needs to be done

OK, you are confusing me here....

He was talking to Malcolm...a new baby in his avatar photo
OK... I am slow at times
Engineer to fireman: "get your back into throwing more coal! we have that humidifer duct to get around and if we're pounding then the percussion bounding off that furnace will blow our eardrums!"
Fireman: "I hear you, it was tough enough handling the grade around the water heater but you managed it brilliantly."
Engineer: I have to get 'er wide open, otherwise we'll never get around the brick column, get going!"
great progress Dan, I'm sure the road crews agree.

I like that
Yeah sorry Dan I was referring to Malcolms' new helper...
The 3 way looks great...I love all the track work, very interesting visually and operationally.
