For a variety of reasons, I would prefer the connectors you chose Stan.
(? with ports & spring to grab a wire tip inserted into the ports).
Splice connecters and I never got along well long term. Ive had more bad splice connector connections than any other 2 single connectors combined; I'd solder first 95% of the time. The experience is years of coin-op repair, offroad, and automotive, hobby and income alike.
They are very cheap and fast though. Try a few out now, before you do a big job . Almost any store with any kind of electricrical dept has them, an automotive/trailer dept. staple. (& a frequent cause of trailer light failures)
My advice to go with using them would be to use a gauge of wire that is one gauge heavier than normal, just in case, to make up for any wire nicks and/or sliced strands during an install of these connectors. Nicks reduce the gauge diameter at that nick/break, and it becomes only as good/big as the narrowest portion.
