I just got the new ten wheeler. I took it out of the box and programed it in with the Legacy controller. In the book it said the classification lights default to green. Mine came on white. I tried to follow the directions to change them but I can't seem to get a "lighting menu" using the Aux2 key. I held it down and nothing comes up. Am I doing something wrong? Help!!!

I did a factory reset. Then I was able to get the lighting menu and change the color. Don't know what the original issue was but it seems ok now. Any ideas what the reset may have changed that allowed this feature to work?

Except,,,,,,,,,,,,for an Extra Train, the class lights SHOULD be "white". "Green" class lights indicate a Second Section Following, which is generally associated with passenger service. Thus, I wonder why Lionel would desire the class lights to "defat to green"?
@Dave Olson, could you help Skip Dave?
I've long felt that the manufacturers would do themselves and us a favor if they would just make front markers show white or off. This would be much more useful. Similarly why not just make the markers on the back of tenders show red, perhaps for pusher service, or off. Both suggestions would be closer to prototype usage. Engineers could simply turn them on when needed.
But I'm just an old curmudgeon.

Truer words were never spoken!!!!! I simply can NOT understand the "toy train mentality" concerning lighting on high-end SCALE sized locomotives. Oh well.
The main reason for no white class lights is there are no white 2mm LEDS or any size that will fit in the fixture. Red, Green, and yellow 2mm LEDs have been around since the '90s. I'll interested how Lionel was able to get white in these engines.

The lights have a clear jewel with a green LED. I’ll have to read the manual. I’d prefer they stay off.
Thanks for the responses. I was just trying to see how this Legacy feature worked. I did a reset and for some reason that solved the problem. It was supposed to be green as a default and after the reset they cme on green. I was also then able to pull up the lighting menu and change the color.
Green class lights are correct for over 95% of 3-rail layouts. The train runs in a continuous loop around and around, so there is always another section following!
Lots of great info here. Thank you. I've learned so much on this Forum.

Pete, there are lots of really tiny LEDs (white and otherwise) these days. The local HO guys can get them small enough to go in HO scale class lamp housings!

Bob, these are SMD chips, no. If so they only radiate in one direction vs the ceramic LEDs that radiate 360 degrees. I may have to play with a few.

Bob,
You must be right. With those green marker lights on every train that passes, it's no wonder my MOW crew can never finish a day's work on the line. That's my new excuse for not finishing my layout. :-p
Perpetually waiting for the extra,

That's a good one! I will adopt it as my excuse - it sounds better than admitting I don't have enough space - or energy.
With legacy, you can turn the market lights off. There is a separate button to turn the front marker lights off and a separate button for the tender marker lights. You can do exact as wanted above. Turn then white, green, on, off.what else do you need?
For starters, the housing is now clear so even the green lights won't look like the other green lights in Skip's collection.
