Seen last year at the New York Museum of Transportation, south of Rochester. Looks heavy duty.

That is so funny. It goes with the highway overpasses that are tagged "LIONEL"
New Lionel proto type but they could not get the UL approval.
Is it a war-time issue for the Navy (or other service), perhaps?
Never saw one of these for sale at York! (Do see at least one of another item from the war-time production sometimes (proper name for it escapes me, but it's for a ship or sub and it is about 4 feet tall and very heavy).

Hellgate Bridge controller?

It looks like a detonator for the Gomez Addams exploding bridge #6-1966.
Ace, where do you find these things...I want one for my layout...
Now THAT'S a PowerHouse. I see it comes ready to mount under your benchwork!
(The responses above are hilarious. Thanks for the laughs! )
You turn the handle on top clockwise 90 degrees and lift to expose the PU-235 detonator.

Gentlemen,
Hay, who stole my transformer and tried to sell it in New York. I was wondering why my power had dropped. At least you could have cleaned the old girl up, before you took the picture. Please return the transformer, our Union RailRoad here in Turtle Creek needs the power back.

Last time I saw one of these, it was used to transition the swing bridge in Spring Lake Mi.
