Block Wiring scheme using the MTH DCS and Passive Mode
Note: As described on pages 116 and 117 of the DCS O Gauge Companion (2nd Edition) the use of Passive Mode can provide an alternate wiring scheme for DCS control of engines. Passive Mode eliminates wiring to the input (or inputs) to the MTH TIU. Therefore the current to the track never passes through the TIU.
Two TIUs are used as shown.
One TIU is used exclusively for engine control via the MTH DCS WIFI.
A second TIU (with one or more AIUs) is used for control of turnouts, blocks and accessories. The MTH handheld controller is used to operate this TIU.
Note: The wiring from the TIU output can be 18 gauge since no appreciable current is carried by these wiring connections. The wiring from the transformer could be 14 gauge or 16 gauge depending on the current draw of the engines.
