The Penn American Railroad to suspend operations at Oxford Pa., in response to pending relocation

Initiative will drive further layout efficiencies and cost increases

Oxford. Pa. - Apr 25, 2017

The Penn American Railroad Corp. (TraindieselSE: PAR) announced today that it will suspend all train operations on the layout, effective May 1. The action is in response to my wife accepting a new job and the resulting relocation to the San Diego area, and is consistent with the company’s ongoing implementation of its strategic plan to enhance operating efficiencies, increase model train acquisition costs, drive enjoyability, and support long-term growth. The Penn American Railroad remains on track to achieve its previously announced annual expense of model train acquisitions and an operating layout by 2020.

The Penn American Railroad plans to dismantle the layout, pack and store freight cars, all locomotives and all current infrastructure and assemble into a new layout at a new, currently un-named San Diego area facility. As part of the change in operations, train traffic will increase on the new layout, increasing the need for a large layout space and infrastructure associated with train operations and maintenance activities. The San Diego area location will continue to serve as a hub for through-train operations and provide safe, reliable service to local Train Room customers, and The Penn American Railroad has developed an operating plan to minimize any layout building impact.

San Diego will serve as headquarters for the company’s Northern Hemisphere Division, which includes lotsa track miles primarily in the basement Train Room. Although approximately 2 positions will be impacted by the suspension of operations on the layout, both positions will be transferred to the San Diego facilities and continue to support division operations and manage The Penn American Railroad traffic. The Penn American Railroad will assist impacted positions by offering them opportunities to build the new layout as it become available across the system. The Penn American Railroad currently employs more than 1 people across the layout area.

Today’s announcement is part of other recent initiatives in The Penn American Railroad’s five-year strategic plan to deviate from cost control and initiate layout improvements, including:

*Consolidating operating steam locomotive turntable and diesel locomotive transfer table facilities bridge and infrastructure initiatives;

*Developing scenery and city developments;

*Restructuring the company’s layout construction techniques and materials; and

*Consolidating corporate office locations.

Best of luck on your move Traindiesel. You have some great train guys in San Diego. The Balboa Club and the layout in Old Town are must sees. When you are settled and get a chance to visit LA, come see us at Angel's Gate Hi Railers in San Pedro. This die hard Phillies and Flyers fan will welcome you with open arms. Going to see the Fightins at Dodger Stadium on Friday.

Good Luck.

Jeff

This is nothing more than a money grab by yet another railroad magnate who's ego is too big for his britches.   What a stab in the back to the loyal riders and business they served here on the East Coast.  Time for us little guys to band together to fight this move in the courts!  "Lotsa miles" my keester!

In all seriousness, what an awesome post to announce your move.   I wish you and Lynley nothing but the best!  See you at York!
