I run a basement layout of 120+ feet of track with 3 Lion Chief trains around a Christmas Village. It takes it's place in our finished basement for 8-10 weeks through out the Holidays. I want to expand my village with a ski slope with a working ski lift. Does anyone have a ski slope on your layouts and if yes, any pictures you could share and ideas as to how yours were built or bought. The first picture shows the area I want to expand which is to the left of that part of the village about 24-30 inches wide using the full depth and moving the small shelf unit to the left the amount needed. I know, your thinking, I already have two small working slopes that are part of the village collection. But I want a larger addition that utilizes the full two steps (risers) with 1 lift from bottom to top.

There is a great one at the Choo Choo barn in Strasburg PA if I remember correctly. You could probably find video online for it. I think you could make it as one unit (mountain and ski lift) that could be stored away after the holidays

For my ski slope, I used Shaper Sheets over a base, then plaster cloth and Flex Paste for various contours, and the snow products below. See photos.
Hope this helps,

I don't have a ski slope but I built a recycling center with 2 Microwave motors and nylon strapping.. Maybe you can mount the motors horizontally with white strapping and have the skiers go into a building or behind the mountain at the end of the run??? You might be able to mount skiers on a wire and attach them to the belt. In my operation I have 2 belts operating and going into 3 buildings to give the impression of a continuous operation. You could have one belt going behind a mound of snow and the second belt going off in a different direction. Or you could use multiple pulleys to create a triangle and have the skiers go around them. I guess you will have to hide the skiers under the snow when they are going up hill. As for the ski lift you could use wire to attach the chairs...... What ever you do it will be a challenge... Good Luck. Gene genemaag@yahoo.com
