Earlier this year I posted a building front project where I took the front and back sides of the Korber Pickle factory kit and made two building fronts. This time I took the OGR Ameri-Towne #443 Homestead Furniture building kit and made another building front for my industrial section of the layout.
I first chose the pieces that I would be using and painted them. The stone foundation was painted flat grey, the doors flat brown, the loading docks flat brown and a little flat black to grime them up, and the top of the building white. These areas were spray painted. The windows were painted Testors beret green. The roof and back wall was cut as needed for this project.
The next step was to glue the two wall and roof pieces together. The wood is 1/4" square bass wood. This was also added to the sides for more strength and stability.
So that the front wall section and side section mate properly, I removed any brick or molding from the edge of the side piece.
Next, the side walls were attached.
So that there was a little more strength in attaching the front wall, I glued 1/16" balsa to the side piece. Since the wall behind the layout was painted sky blue and the front wall would be right up against this, I put a piece of black paper over the windows.
The rood vents were included with the kit. I added a chimney from Finished Models and wall vents from Scenic Express.
And here it is on the layout.
