42 years and I have everything that is important to me in my family, our kids and grandkids,,, and my college sweetheart, we don't ride motorcycle anymore, her back can't take it like when we were young... now we ride trains because doing "With" is the Key! <salute> Riding a bike alone is, well, not "it" lol

Last cool thing I bought was a ZW-L last week!! Got a really good deal from a forum member who is switching to HO.... and my wife of 40 or so years couldn't care less...when it comes to trains or guns she knows if I want it I'm going to get it... it doesn't hurt that I NEVER say anything when she wants to spend on something.

I agree!  I never complain about anything my wife buys.  She has good judgement and evidently thinks I do too.

In the morning I will be placing my pre order for only my 2nd premier engine MTH's VO-1000 from Mario's Trains. I like the switcher engines and want to do a  bunch of switching instead of just round and round a loop this was a good choice for me not having tons of real estate. Recently I just recieved the B unit for my MTH Railking PA AA set purchased at York from Trainworld.

I bought a Lionel Post War Celebration Series Central New Jersey FM Train master. It runs and looks good but I need to take care of a few issues. The axles feel a little dry, what is recommended to lube them? The railsonds sound good for a loco of this vintage but I think there is a battery in there somewhere to replace. I'll work on that one. The last mystery is the switches. Under the loco I found the volume pot with a switch on either side. One of them is for the sound and I don't know what the other is. Is it the program switch?

Overal should be a fun loco and I like diesels.

Mark, you will like them.

Mine, albeit Rail King Scale (100 and some less) are in center of picture.

The VO1000's had both two-stacks and four-stacks.  MTH did not only match the number of stacks to the road but also to the road-number.

Thanks Larry,  this is from MTH, like the Reading T-1 I posted a week or so earlier.  They are fantastic looking and operating locomotives.

I really like the Reading T-1's and Western Maryland H-9's by MTH.  My goal is to one day have one of each of the road numbers done for both classes in PS2 and PS3.

Nice looking engine Larry! But be careful there might be more power there then your used too! LOL

Quests start when an item is no longer made or it is hard to find. Since Weaver closed one of my Weaver quests has been wood chip hoppers. And over a period of time I have been able to get most that were made. One I will probably never be able to find was a custom wood chip hopper for Brentwood antiques. An MEC one. At York I talked to a dealer who said he had the early wood chip hoppers in kits form. I told him to email when he got back home as to what he had. When he did I said I would take all five and I was able to get trucks for them too. The kits have to be put together and they came minus the trucks and couplers. Pics of the hoppers............Paul

Hilarious..... strap er with tiny chain tiedowns with the prop in the correct "Train Running" position so as not to knock down all the trees that you pass.. hah ha

Matt

Yes I did. The biggest engine I will ever own. A G scale MTH PS-2 Big Boy to go with my G Challenger I received last week.

This thing must have been something to behold going down the track.

I did get to see one at the St Louis Museum  a long time ago. Here is a picture of the inside. This thing is said to be  132 feet long and weighing in at almost 1.2 million pounds. WOW!

Larry

PS Dang, I need to get some track down!!!! 1st picture is my model. Others are the real thing.

I went to Seattle yesterday and on my way home I hit all the hobby shops that are still in existence in the area. Actually bought a bit of stuff, more than I expected.0521171040-1_resized

I finally found someone 1/43 scale World War II US soldiers. I'm going to have to change the poses to a very small degree and do a few paint details, but all-in-all they look pretty decent and they're exactly the right size for O scale.
They're made by rail king.

I was just looking on the bay this am and there was some trains in a group for sale For $200 ( post war trains ) I noticed The Navy A&B unit, then a 3535 security car ( only missing the guns) the 6544 Missile firing car ( missing the brake wheels like 98% are ) and a few other items. So did the buy it now for $200 + $40 shipping. Figured I could get my money back out of it. Upon closer evaluation of my to be bounty I discovered that actually the U.S.Navy complete set was there minus the blue flat car for the helo with the rockets attached to it that was in the package of items. So I just obtain another 1633 postwar set. Plus a lot of other stuff.

Just got this WW2 staff car in the mail, off of eBay. It is very well done, even painted in the right color paint. I was very surprised to find out that I don't think I'm going to have to do any real detail changes or work to it at all. The only thing I want to do is do some very, very light weathering to the undercarriage showing how it's gone over unimproved roads to get where it is on the layout.0524171705_resized-1

I am going to need to change the bumper markings, though. It came out of the box marked for Commanding General, first Army. That won't be a difficult fix.

Great timing!!  Happy birthday, Bob!

Yes.  Have always regretted selling our beautiful pair of Lionel E6s some years ago. Recently I acquired the non-powered A unit from here on the Forum and came across a MTH B unit on the bay. As the AT&SF mostly ran the E6 series as AB locomotives, this was a 'perfect alignment' of available units!

Will probably order a Sunset 3rd Rail powered B unit when available but for now, this nice pair will do fine for photos & display.

Very nice acquisitions, Sam.  They look great on the trestle!

I regretted selling my MTH Imperial N&W J 611, when I got an opportunity to buy a Premier version at a great price.  I thought I would be putting 072 curves in my new room.  However as we worked out the planning process this past winter, I took others' advice that the 072 loops would overpower the whole scenic effect of the small layout.  I traded the Premier for a couple smaller engines and freight cars.  Just a month ago a Imperial J 602 became available, with about as little run time as the one I sold.  I am glad to have the same locomotive back, save for the different number!  Yay!!!

Schweeet!

I know that sucker didn't come cheap! Is this among the new batch they sold off? For years, the only civilian-owned military Humvees were ex-USMC out of one auction at Albany, GA. I heard rumors another batch was going to be sold off.

I would say it's too bad we don't live near each other so we could take out military vehicles out for a spin, but you'd leave my 1944 Willys MB Jeep in the dust right away, as your can go highway speeds and mine would cause damage if it went over 45 MPH...

I still have a part of a tire from one of my Humvees, it came apart driving down a road on a FTX, on hardball road. Practically exploded and I'll never know why (thank goodness it was a runflat as we of course had no spare). I used it as a paperweight for years in the service and couldn't bring myself to throw it away for some reason...

They been auctioning them for about a couple of years now. I finely bit the bullet. Issue has been the SF 97s with the statement  of off road use only.  Finally  worked issue with licensing in Florida.  Less than ten but still not cheap.

This clock was a gift from my wife's step mother for Christmas. It came broken and I told her I was up for a challenge.

It's been sitting in pieces in a box for months. I finally got around to it the other day. I just had to solder a few wires back in place and now she's working like a champ. Every hour the clock makes steam engine sounds and the train goes around. When my kids hear it, they run to the kitchen to watch it. They love it!

I managed to get a JLC Y6B today. Bought it on Ebay and the seller hand delivered it to me since we live fairly close to each other(about 25-30 minutes away). It wasn't until we were talking(about 20 minutes) what railroads we liked and NYC came up and I commented about the PT Tender. He said, "That was you? Small world". Not exactly new to me since had purchased  a copy when first published.  But some how lost/misplaced it.  Found a "new" copy  Monday and here it is.

The significant thing about in this book is 29-pages of the " CHESSIE."  I have seen where some train writers state it never existed.  There are B&W pictures of nine of the CHESSIE passenger cars.  And pictures of the M-1 including some in color.  Also pictures of the Chessie pulled by the M1 on tour.  It just never actually ran in revenue service.

that y6 will be a long way from home on the water level route!.....HA HA HA! beautiful locomotive man enjoy it!

Two items... first, an MTH PRR J-1 to replace the Lionel model I had years ago and, in a selling fit, let go.  No dealers have these but I found a near mint one on the bay.  This one is a prolific smoker, and the sounds are great.  MTH has improved the realism of the whistle - I can't hear it loop like I can with my PS2 locos.

Also from the bay, a Lionel 13150 PWCS re-issue of the 1964 773 Hudson set.  There's an issue with the loco that I'll work through, but the rolling stock has never turned a wheel and the price was right.  With it having 3 operating cars, it was too fun to pass up.

Got them from England and they weren't cheap.

Lee,

Those look great!  I hope you'll share the painted results with us.  You mentioned putty for filling in seams. Can you say a bit more about what type?  Does it harden?  Would it work on plastic?

I ask because I bought some unpainted plastic scale animals.  (And, I have my eye on some 1/43 English metal figures, too.)  Several of the plastic animals have gaps at the seams that are so wide they make it look like the models may be constructed from hollow pieces formed together.  I've painted one sheep so far, and I think those spots are noticeable. Can't imagine how bad a cow or horse will look.

Thanks in advance,

Tomlinson Run Railroad

I've developed an interest in the beautiful NP passenger trains running through the northwest  recently. Have acquired the K-Line F3 ABA and some Weaver and MTH 20"/18" cars for them this last year.  Just this week I stumbled upon this handsome (if fanciful*) rendition of a PA in the pretty two-toned green scheme with 5 cars from early Williams production. Probably around 1995 or so if I remember correctly.

*As a boy, I lusted for the American Flyer set like this that Williams probably used as an inspiration. The NP never had any PA's and the F units and cars had black trucks. Awfully pretty however!

Perhaps in the future I may do some 3Rail scale work on these with Kadees and some added detail to dress them up a bit

Sam,

Fanciful or not, it looks great!  You certainly come up with some handsome passenger trains!!

I unboxed these MTH Premier B&O F7's Wednesday night, they were perfect right out of the box, great details, lots of grab irons, nice paint job, LED headlight, markers, and numbers boards, Proto 3, passenger station sounds, both the A units are powered. MTH even included shorter couplers so you could make the units couple closer if you wanted. Very nice, very happy.

I did not preorder them from the 2016 vol 1 catalog because I hate the tethers. Someone told me at York in April that the tethers are gone now, you just run them as a DCS lash up instead, like Lionel. They were correct, no tethers.

So, last weekend I found the A units at Nicholas Smith with a nice discount, the B at Trainworld and ordered them to pull my passenger rig, as well as freight. Excellent speedy service from both stores, well packed, and great communications.

Glad I saw the "Mike Wolf in China" video, got my MTH juices flowing, and I am sure contributed to this purchase. Good job Ken at Trainworld for coming up with the China video idea.

Recent purchases ... what oh what is going on at the Tomlinson Run Railroad?  Wait until July 4th to see!

UPS truck, miscellaneous accessories, and some 3-D printed items. The truck is plastic and doesn't have an opening rear door, which explains its low price.  But it'll do:

And here goes the neighborhood! Literally.

I just got a P2 Boxcab off E-Bay in Penn Central Livery, I've already got one in NYC Livery. I pick it up on Monday, because of my work hours I can't pick it up any earlier. I know I know, "This Thread is worthless without pics" LOL. I'll post pics on Monday. I never thought MTH made one of those in PC livery and when I saw it I just had to have it.

I bought an eye exam and fancy new glasses which was expensive !!  But now I can see.

Me too! But I've trained myself to acknowledge that having eye exams is a very good thing. I got convinced of that when, during a routine eye exam in 2013, the doctor discovered I had glaucoma and scheduled me for urgent surgery, right away, saying that if I had not come in for the examination (which I had done by happenstance, on a whim!!!!!) and had the problem corrected, which was totally unsuspected by me = no signs of it to me - I would have awakened one morning, sooner than later, to find myself in the dark permanently.

Yes, eye exams are good to have. Often. Yesterday's assured me all was well , but I needed an up-tick in my glasses prescription, which I had suspected when viewing the computer screen and doing minute modeling recently.

P.S. To my fellow hobbyists out there in hobbyland, forewarned is farsighted.

I managed to get a JLC Y6B today. Bought it on Ebay and the seller hand delivered it to me since we live fairly close to each other(about 25-30 minutes away). Was my first Ebay purchase, great price, and Tom is a great guy. Ironically, I had bought from him earlier at one of the Greenberg show's the PT Tender to the Century Club Empire State Express. It wasn't until we were talking(about 20 minutes) what railroads we liked and NYC came up and I commented about the PT Tender. He said, "That was you? Small world". Funny how that works.IMG_20170609_191841010[2]IMG_20170609_185936229[1]IMG_20170609_190337801[2]IMG_20170609_190215204[2]IMG_20170609_190155784[1]

Solid engine. I'm a huge N&W fan and this is one of my favorite O Scale Y6b's made.

that y6 will be a long way from home on the water level route!.....HA HA HA! beautiful locomotive man enjoy it!

Yeah, a little far from home is right. I'm still in planning stages for what will be the big layout(16x20) if space allows when done settling my mom's estate. I plan on having a few main lines(which I need to get back into my design program). Was tinkering in my head mostly of where the PRR & NYC would have some crossover territory and that would be where the N&W(and some other lines) would have their rails running. Of course time is something I need to find. Someone throw a clock at me.

Knowing Lee for acquiring items of historical significance.  It probably came from the moon. Get it?

Man, you guys and your poop humor...

As for real Moon stuff, I have a couple of items that were carried onto the surface of the moon (outside the LM lander, too), but I never mention them online. That stuff is in a lockbox at the bank... Long ago I decided not to be a deducated collector of flown space stuff due to crushing costs, but I have lucked up on a few items anyway.

I know a guy who bought one of the metal cases that moon rocks were carried in to the laboratory at Houston. He found it at a garage sale! That would be my Holy Grail of space collecting....

A long time ago, in the earlier days of the Space Age, my brother-in-law was a Dr. at Cape Kennedy, as it was called. He told me adult diapers originated with the space program because that was the only alternative to an obvious problem. True ??

No idea. That's a chicken/egg thing that I've never looked into.

They do use adult diapers under the pressure suits, though. The problem sitting on the pad is that the crew is sitting horizontally and that's really tough to pee sitting down with your back level with the ground, I've been told by a few astronauts.

So folks either love them or they hate them!  I love them.  Here are two MTH BL-2s I bought from Mike Caruso.  The number 83 is ProtoSound and is a really smooth running engine.  I happen to have a PS3 upgrade kit that will go in it.  The 7181 with the newer paint scheme is a non powered unit.  Thanks to Mike!!!

Aw man, I was about to pull the trigger on those.  I guess I'll settle for the Western Maryland crane and boom car that came yesterday.0622171457a

Paul, The crane and boom car look great!  Actually, I was on the fence on Mike's BL-2s a month ago, then last week decided to put the other project on the back shelf and use the PS3 kit for this.  I was surprised they were still available.
