Beautiful engine, Donnie. I actually had one on my roster back in the day, but my ex swiped it in the divorce but I still have the caboose that was issued with it. Looks great pulling just about anything (but part of me agrees with Joe - passenger cars would make for a sharp consist!!!).

Oh man. Sorry to hear that. I sold the coke express car. It was too big. Not sure what to get to replace it. The passenger cars are just waaaay too much yellow for my liking. Lol

Picked up two pieces of rolling stock at the Greenberg's Train Show in Wilmington, MA this past weekend.

The first is an MTH Railking SF ATSF lighted steel caboose with LED warning lights, detailed interior and brakeman.

The second is a Lionel "uncatalogued" welding car in B&M livery. The welder figure at the end of the car rotates from right to left as the car moves and the welding torch flickers from a blue LED light. The side of the tool box reads, " Portsmouth Naval Shipyard est. 1800". Very cool.

For almost 6 months (was supposed to be 6 weeks), I have been NY helping my brother after knee surgery (with some complications), but, while I haven’t been near the layout, that hasn’t stopped me from adding to my collection So, without further ado…

First up (and I posted this over on the NH thread) is one of the latest run Lionel Atlantics in New Haven livery. A rather sweet, small steamer from one of my favorite lines. Sharp engine and a nice runner (based on my short time running it).

Second, we have a special run Lionel SD40-2 done by Grzyboski’s. I’ve been trying to pick up some pieces which run locally in NE Pennsylvania and this will go nicely with the R&N GP30 I picked up last year.

Next up, from the good folks at METCA (if you haven’t checked out their offerings, I would strongly recommend doing so!!!) a Brooklyn Eastern District Terminal flatbed with 2 trailers. I actually bought both they offered, but only had time to set up one. I look forward to running it with my BEDT 0-6-0T and some other METCA Boar’s Head Reefers.

Paul, you have been a terrible influence on me! Earlier today I was gloating after successfully resisting making other purchases. Thanks to your post, I now feel my self control waning. LOL.

I need to mentally and figuratively put myself in a straight jacket to keep from buying that New Haven Atlantic and Brooklyn Eastern Disttict flat car.

I'm sure those gorgeous trains cost you a pretty penny, which I can I'll afford, but since you've already splurged, I wish that they bring you long term happiness. LOL, Arnold

Paul is a terrible influence. I blame him for all my new York central purchases. 😂

So I went touring Cabin Fever's 11/16 auction, and a couple of things caught my eye. Actually it was three things.

First one was a several-year-old MTH Premier full length Santa Fe vista dome. Full disclosure--I already have the last premier Santa Fe set MTH released before the tooling was sold to Atlas. A full ten-car train (including a full dome), set to be pulled by my ATSF 2903 Northern. So why acquire more cars? A separate project of mine was to build an Amtrak Exhibit Train. I already have the locomotives, but the cars would need to be repaints of existing coaches, sleepers, baggage cars and an Amfleet cafe car for the store, and the Santa Fe passenger cars would be the easiest to redecorate, either for me or (more likely) a professional custom painter like CJB. So rather than buy boxed sets, I was acquiring "surplus" unboxed MTH coaches from York vendor RPO Trains (now known as Uncle Jack's Trains), and over the course of several York shows I came into enough of the ATSF versions that it became feasible to build another ATSF consist beyond the proposed Exhibit Train, hence my interest in that single full-length dome.

The car in question was only the third lot of the auction, and had up to the day of closing, had not received many bids, the top bid being under $40. That is, right up till about 15 or so minutes before auction close when I put in my max bid of $90. Someone else really wanted that car, because I was immediately outbid, jacking up the price to $100. A quick tour of Ebay showed I could find a few examples of similar ATSF dome cars for less than that bid  (once packing, shipping and premium was figured in), so I let that bidder have the car.

I had better luck with the second and third lots, because they didn't look all that impressive. Two lots of six assorted tank cars, "some with missing or loose details". As lots #71 and #72, they were high up in the chain of the 636-lot auction and would also be an early close, not subject to a whole lot of the "bid competition" effect I described in a other recent Cabin Fever thread. No manufacturer or product numbers were given, and they looked  like Weaver tankers, being of two different sizes, and five of them were duplicate roadnames and numbers. The top bids at the time were in the $30-$40 range, so like the ATSF dome, they seemed to have garnered little interest. But something  bothered me about my initial assertion. The trucks didn't look like Weaver roller-bearing trucks --Weaver used solid sintered-iron wheels to the best of my knowledge, and these were hollow on the back face. So I took one of the reporting marks + road number and looked them up in Google Images.

They were K-Line.

And being modern frameless tankers, that meant they were top-of-the-line aluminum K-Line tankers. Earlier in this thread (as in, page 288), I showed photos of a pair of K-Line Citgo aluminum tankers I won in the 8/10 auction, and mentioned that there was another lot that contained three more of these in different road numbers that I lost out on. With that in mind, I put in max bids of $90 on both lots. One lot escalated to $70, the other to $50. No other bids appeared, and I won both Auction close and billing was Wedensday, shipping was billed on Saturday, and shipping commenced on Monday, arriving the next day. All of these cars were unboxed, (meaning lots of bubble wrap and an absolute blizzard of static-charged packing peanuts ), incurring a combined pack & ship fee of around $55 and arrived in a 24x16x12 Uline box cut down to 24x16x10" and weighing 19 pounds according to the UPS label.

So what's in the box? Tankerpalooza! Captions reference the photo above them:

k6341-8011 + k6341-8014

Lacking boxes and thus product numbers, I had to do some research to find out what to call these. First off are these two: K6341-8011 Hooker Chemicals and  K6341-8014 TankTrain.

k6341-1051 + k6341-1052

Next up are these two Santa Fe cars: K6341-1051 and  K6341-1052. The white stripe denotes diesel fuel and the red stripe denoted gasoline. These were part of a set of four that also included a yellow-striped car (k6341-1053) labeled "Car Journal Oil", and a fourth green-striped car (presumably K6341-1054?) whose commodity is unknown since I couldn't find a photo of it outside of an old Walthers page showing the four-pack in low-resolution Supposedly the 4-pac was numbered K6341-1051-1.

(Edit 04/27/23: Worthpoint and Legacy station have clear photos of the green-stripe K6341-1054 (both already sold). Commodity is "Water Only" Also, I have secured the K6341-1053. Still looking for the 1054)

(Edit 10/17/23: I have secured the K6341-1054. Set complete.)

k-90041 x2

Next are these two Burlington Northern tankers, K90014. A review of one of my old YouTube videos confirms I have one of these already from when they were first issued. Won't be the first duplicates in my collection

k6333-8015

Here is K-6333-8015 Archer Daniels Midland. I was going to photograph it next to one of the SP tankers, keeping with the 2-per-photo pattern above, but abandoned that when it turned out that adding one of the larger cars made the pair too long to photograph at the same size, so I just shoved them over to put the shorter car in the center. This car is an in-between size (probably indicated by its being in the K6333 series). It's longer than the previous cars and the tank itself is wider (same width as the long cars pictured below)

k6334-2031 x3

next up are three K6334-2031 Southern Pacific 50' tankers. Unfortunately all three are the same road number (I don't know if K-Line ever made these in any other roadnumbers). You probably won't notice that as they roll by in a train, since by the time I get to put these in a video, you'll have long forgotten I mentioned this and won't be looking for it I stacked all three together in one photo to make it clear these were three duplicate cars and not one photo repeated 3x

k6334-8016

"We all live in the yellow tanker-ine..." <BRICK>

Above is a K6334-8016 Saftey-Kleen 50' tanker. This one was probably responsible for the listing's designation of "loose/missing details", as its side railings arrived sprung out of the platforms. Fortunately I was able to re-fasten them (they snap into small slots where they join the end platforms). The small stanchions holding them away from the tank body are a bit more mysterious as to how they're fastened (if at all) They're in-place on this photo, but at least one of the SP cars above still have them hanging loose. Two cars are missing one of the top railings and at least half of them had to be shoved back into their mounting holes on the platform, a fiddly task that hasn't really anchored them very securely. Time to get out the calipers and figure out what size of stiff wire can replicate the missing railings (probably easier than finding out if Brasseur has them in their parts list, which for K-Line numbers 1645 items)

k6334-8017

Lastly, here's the K6334-8017 Cardox 50' tanker.

It just now occurs to me that I have a metric buttload of tank cars. Between modern frameless ones like these, the older transition era tankers, and all the chrome-plated ones, I'm almost certain to have passed 100 examples by now. That's a whole lotta scale model explodium

inventory tag

One more thing!

It appears that all of these cars came from the same collection. Or maybe just a majority of them. Eight of the twelve cars had these little "inventory number" stickers on the bottom. Could the "TT" indicate "Train Tracker"? I don't know if the application has such a feature, as I've never used or researched it. maybe someone reading my long-winded post will know.

I clicked on one of MTH’s emails; it was for a animated snowman gondola.  I just picked one up from Muffin man. I showed it a few weeks ago. So I clicked on other items. This lighted boxcar showed up. I didn’t get a boxcar in the other group so I clicked “ Find it Locally “. Three shops showed up, none of which I had ever done business with. I went with JR Junction Trains and hobby. I ordered the car at about 1:50PM yesterday from a very pleasant gentleman. He said that he would try and get it out right away; and I should have it early next week. I said that would be great because I wanted to run on the opening of the club layout next weekend. This morning I got a text from FedEx ground that my package was out for delivery. I was really surprised when it was dropped off 23 hours and 20 minutes after I ordered it. Way to go JR Junction Trains and hobby!B4927797-2E37-4D5B-A0CE-AFBCF27A05B1

i plan on putting the whole set on the layout on Monday. Video to follow.

I've been doing good for the past year not getting much in the way of trains but the 773 bug bit and bit me hard. My layout is all Flyer now so my O gauge is all self queens for now but a 1950 773 and the 1991 Madison reissues made some space to pose! I also did get a set of postwar Madisons but I really wanted a more complete looking train. My 763e isn't the only big Hudson in my house now. The last photo is my collection that keep on display.20221126_18525620221126_18544920221126_18533320221120_090107

Well guys, I can't even come close to some of the beautiful engines and passenger cars so I will have to stick to a much more humble acquisition.  This was a fun one for me, a pre-war "Banjo" (wig-wag) danger crossing signal.  This was originally advertised as Marx but all my Marx reference material does not show anything that resembles this signal.  However, a 1932 accessories catalog page from American Flyer shows what is nearly this exact signal.  So I have tentatively identified it as the Model 222 Banjo Crossing Danger signal from American Flyer dating to the early 1930's.  The catalog lists it at 7 1/4" tall which matches exactly as does the manual operation and the mast / support structure.  HOWEVER, my 1932 catalog shows it with a black base and my base is red.  So if anyone has any further data on this signal please post it as I would like to confirm its make.

Here is the signal with green mast and red support and base.  By the way, the signal was made both with and without the operating rod from the base.  So this could be correct or it could have a missing rod this is unknown after some 90 years!!

American Flyer banjo crossing signal

Here is a short video showing it in operation (manually initiated).

Well best of everything to all.  Hope you have a great week.

Best Regards

Don

Thanks Larry, it was your pictures and videos that persuaded my decision. I now have 4 Legacy locomotives and patiently waiting for my base 3 preorder to arrive, hopefully next year sometime. I’m looking forward to the full potential of these locomotives using the base 3. The app and universal remote does okay for now. I started my layout when the 990 was being discontinued, and as we all know it’s almost impossible to get a 990 at the original price.

Gene

Picked up some locomotives and rolling stock at the Greenberg Train Show over the two days. One of the Golden Pig Trailers is suffering from Zinc Pest but I can live with it since the rest of it is fine, that and I have other trailers suffering from the same thing. I can't thank my friend enough for giving me such a good deal on the locomotives.

A couple of nice pieces Richie.

I've looked for a long time fort that style of Santa Fe caboose from MTH at a decent price.

Thanks Dallas - been off for a few days for the holiday.

They were both from the same dealer at the show, so I was able to put together a good package deal. I wasn't specifically looking for the SF caboose, but it caught my eye while I was looking over the welding car and it seems like I can never have enough lighted cabooses on the layout.

In fact, I have a BTO Maine Central one on order right now !

So, I know it's an mpc, but I had to have this car. Growing up, my dad had the Tyco  ho version of this car. As a little guy I remember it racing around the track and was amused by the little dutch lady on the side of the car. It kept my attention for hours as she was chasing imaginary  dirt around the track. And I think it looks right at home with my train master and reefer cars of the mpc era.PXL_20221129_005905492PXL_20221129_005854054

The '21 Ram and the'70 Challenger are this year's offerings.  My son had a '19 Ram night Edition that looked a lot like this '21.  Dom's Fast and Furious Charger is a left over from last year.  It was the first in a new series "The Car's the Star".  This year's entry is the "48 Ford Deluxe convertible, "Greased Lightning" from, you guessed it, Grease.

Big Piggy is another $5.99 toy rack find.  Three days later and I've already forgotten if it was the supermarket, Lowes or CVS.  I'm going to try and spruce up the interior a little.

I picked up a Lionel Legacy SD70Ace a while ago at the Lionel Warehouse sale.  I had been after this one for a while but could never find one for less than $1500, snapped this one up as soon as I saw it.  I'm finally getting to run it now that I have solved some clearance issues by upgrading to O48 curves.  Gorgeous engine with great sounds!  It is so loud I have to turn it down or it drowns out the rest of my engines on the table.

11, 1656 switchers w/bell ringing tenders. I now have 14 of these 1656 switchers.

14 extra tenders,

2,  682 turbines, one I cannibalized from parts to make it correct w/correct tenders.

1, early 2020 turbine

Ahhh… the memories, Bob. 1986 was the first year my family had a Saturday plan to Shea. In the World Series, we had tix for 2 games - one of which was the 7th. The 6th game was Saturday night and we were transfixed watching the game, but I had to go out and pick up the Sunday early editions of The NY Times and Daily News (remember those days???). Things were going badly as the game dragged on, so I finally decided to make a run between innings - ran to the car, turned on the radio, and tried to pay attention to my driving. As I passed the “old man’s bar” on the corner of Ave. M and Coney Island Ave, there were a bunch of people standing outside, looking in the window to see the game on TV. When I got to the train station at Ave. M where the paper stand was (remember those???), there were a ton of people standing outside the nearby bagel store which had a TV - one person would go inside, check the game and come out and tell everyone the latest (between the paper stand and the bagel store was… TrainWorld!!!). Luckily I got home in time to see Mookie’s hit. Our seats for Game 7 were so high up and so far out in the upper deck, I finally saw the legendary water near Shea and you had a better chance of getting a beer from a flight attendant on the next plane over than you did of a vendor finding our seats Had that plan for over 30 years until the 10-game magically morphed into a 20 game plan As the song says… those were the days my friend.

Not me, Tom… I jokingly say I’m a legally qualified, long suffering Met Fan - as kids, Mom & Dad took my brother and I to several Met games that they played at the old Polo Grounds (if nothing else, a good, long subway ride from Flatbush in Brooklyn!!!). Usually, they don’t string us along into the playoffs… they have enough consideration to the fans to fold early so we don’t get our hopes up. This year was a bit of a stretch, but as my Brooklyn (Trolley) Dodger parents would say, “wait till next year”

I was at my future wife's house the night of game 6. We had plans to go out after the game. Her father and I were watching and were both ready to turn the TV off when the come back began. One of the greatest games in WS history IMHO. The Mets Astros marathon in the LCS ranks up there too.

I had a Daily News route....those Sunday papers weighed a ton!

That M&M's billboard looks like it was sprayed on using some sort of photo process.  Very nice job and very cool car -- love the hats they're wearing -- most worthy of posting here.  I met a lady from Minnesota a few years ago at a train show and she did the same sort of photo process thing, but I lost her card.  Would you mind sharing the contact of the seller?

Nice hauls, Cory. Don’t you love the detailing on those Nathan’s boxcars? So glad I was able to get them when they came out. You’re also doing a great job picking up the best subways for your collection.

Yes the details are nice. I originally ordered one but when I went to trainland to pick it up, I ended up buying the other one! Thanks for the compliment about the subway sets. There will be more videos soon.

Picked up this Maine Central box car in green livery at the NE Train Expo in Marlborough, Mass this past weekend. I have a lot of MC rolling stock in yellow/orange colors, but this is the first in green.

Interestingly, there are no markings on the car to indicate who is the manufacturer. It's very well done and comes with plastic thumbtack couplers. Its larger than Lionel/traditional; I'd say semi-scale.

My Lionel BTO UP F 3 AA set just arrived at my dealer, so I'll be posting a review on that in the near future.

Hi Richie,

It's a Frank's Roundhouse car (FRH), made by Frank Rash and his son, Jack, in Wilkes Barre, PA, back in the 80s and 90s. If it came in a box it could have been a generic white box with identification on the end (it's # 41) or a KMT orange, blue, and white box. More information about FRH, photos, and a spreadsheet of FRH's production (well over 100 boxcars/reefers, 21 FM Trainmasters, passenger cars, etc.) are available at:

https://www.robertstrains.com/Frank.htm

FRH also decorated a Maine Central boxcar in orange (FRH # 42).

Thanks, Bob - good to know. The seller had two versions - one brand new with a box and a used one with a little road rash with no box, that was cheaper. I opted for the cheaper version and cleaned it up and detailed it after I got it home.

The box was under the new one, so I never got a chance to look at it, but I believe it was a generic white box with printing on the end, as you noted. The only thing that threw me was I think it may have been printed, "Waltham, Mass" on the end.

I have been looking for months to find a good condition silver and gray 2023 dummy to go with my nearly pristine looking 2023 engine.  Hasn't been easy with something 72 years old. Finally found one  that fit my budget.

2023 dummy

The condition when I opened the package suprised me.   The picture doesn't do it justice.  Wheels show  almost no wear with paint and lettering in excellent condition.

just picked up my Erie hobo car from Lionel...   nicely done.

one of the sound bytes is a copy of dialog on the kitchen car. ("best wiener i've ever tasted")

What a great fun boxcar and it actually looks good for a Lionel model Scott.               I really like the sound feature.    Does the boxcar need to be on a specific piece of track for the sound feature ?    ( no matter, still a unique car Scott )   Thanks for sharing.

( I was disappointed with Lionel's PE hot chocolate passenger car that I wanted to purchase .  They could keep the silhouetted window figures but I wish I could talk to Lionel about having sound ,  maybe something like the HOT CHOCOLATE song being played. )

@Dallas Joseph  No special track is required. The car is equipped with an ON/OFF switch, MIN/MAX switch, and a volume knob.  On the MAX setting, the car plays hobo harmonica & random dialogs while standing still, or rail sounds clickity-clack / wheel squeal when in motion.  Moving the MIN/MAX switch to MIN silences the hobo sounds. Sample of sounds while in motion in this video clip.

To answer the questions I have had, this appears to be a one-off customization.  It is well done, but looking closely it does not appear to be a factory customization.  I tried to contact the seller for more information, but got no reply.

In my opinion no postwar collection is complete without a smoking 736 Berkshire. Finally found a reasonable priced original 3 window I've been looking for. I believe it to be 1953-54 version! Rebuilt the smoke unit for liquid and  gave her some tlc! PXL_20221211_033715420PXL_20221211_033703739PXL_20221211_033722170

I agree that the Postwar Lionel 736 Berkshire is wonderful; got 4 of them. Then, I got the magnificent 773 and also got hooked on command control including MTH PS2 and 3 steamers running on DCS and a couple of very nice LC+ steamers, so now I hardly ever run my Postwar Berkshires.

Might sell a couple of them down the road. Arnold

Haha. I couldn't imagine. As much as the 736 and my 681 smoke I only run one at a time. The 773 is on the bucket list of holy grail purchases as I call them. Have 2 young ones we're saving for college and savings accounts. Couldn't justify that or 700e,763e purchase for a decade or so. Lol

For the last 6 months, I’ve been helping my brother after some serious surgery (was supposed to be 6 weeks!!!), so I haven’t been near my layout, but that hasn’t stopped me from buying One of the major benefits to having a relationship with a local train store is great service. In my case, since I’ve only made it home every couple of weekends, so when anything I’ve pre-ordered comes in, or if I see something I’m interested in, Grzyboski’s has held it for me till I get back, saving the cost and damage concerns from shipping. Here are a couple of the items I just picked up… I. Must. Stop. Buying. Trains…

First up, the two C Liners I ordered came in. They are really sharp with some beautiful detail.

I really like the placement of the various switches… the rear of the unit is hinged and easily folds down allowing easy access.

47E17DBF-0E7A-4A6F-B5E5-1682CC1715E5

A couple of months before the LIRR C Liner came out, the 21” passenger cars arrived. Due to their length, I only purchased a two-pack, so they will be a short commuter train. The spacing between cars is pretty close, so the rubber vestibules almost touch. And you’ve got to love Dashing Dan!!!

Milwaukee Road Reefer (6-19500):

Milwaukee Road Stock Car (6-19515; this one was issued in 1990 but never cataloged):

Milwaukee Road Tank Car (6-19600):

6-19600

Milwaukee Road Porthole Caboose (6-19701; I do have the red marker lights; just didn't want  to install them for the photo session and then not be able to remove them and then they get broken);

Time flies, Donnie, you will have your 773, it's just a matter of time. Also, I find, as we get older, that the years fly by faster than when we were younger.

Now, speaking of the VisionLine steamer, that's a lot of money. Also, I'm unlikely to get one for 2 reasons: I'm committed to 031 curves because of the configuration of my half basement and layout, and Lionel in unlikely to make one that navigates 031 curves. The 2nd reason, of course is the cost.

The VisionLine does seem to be the ultimate of 0 Gauge steamers, with smoke jetting out of so many places like a real steamer.

However, if Lionel happens to make a VisionLine steamer that navigates 031 curves, I will be tempted.

No the C-Liners were gone by then (as were diaphragms on passenger cars) but it is a beautiful engine. Road switchers which don't need to be turned or RDCs were Scoot power. I'm trying to stick to LIRR steam era but this engine is very tempting.

When it was originally offered, I passed. I didn't think I was ready for a big fancy train. Since then I bought several, and when this was shown on Eric's Trains I was kicking myself for not ordering. So I put myself on the list for any no sales. They called last week and said they had 1 extra, so I went ahead and got it. It's really nice...Tim

it sure is. As I wrote to Paul, it won't fit on my small layout. I do have a K-line Greenport Scoot set and I recently picked up another pair of coaches for it.

Bob

Bought a Century Club S-2 steam turbine (6-18057) with the additional tender (6-18068). Sitting on my desk until I finish moving my table to the basement.

IMG_2481

I also got two models to make over my holiday break. From Altoona Model Works the Branch Line Station kit and from Conowingo Models the Dardanelle's Shanty kit.

These will be my first kits I'll build. And after moving to Detroit, except for a brief test run in our garage,  I haven't been able to setup my new Mianne table. So I'm looking forward to putting all of this together.

Definitely good looking purchases Paul.

NEAT!  This takes me back to the Christmas of 1948.  That Christmas Santa brought me (us) the second Lionel electric train.  This time it was the  "Electronic" set with the turbine numbered 671.  And mine actually worked!

Obviously, Bob, an expansion is called for. Declare eminent domain, purchase some some O-72 curves, and I foresee some 21” passenger cars in your future

Eminent Domain? Yes, I can see it now...part of the layout could be a land battle with bulldozers and lots and lots of O gauge lawyers with briefcases (sorry Arnold!)!

Tom

I have been searching for an E-44 for a while now. Seems like I could always find an EF-4, but I wanted an E-44 (preferably Conrail). I finally grabbed one from an auction for a decent price. It wasn't a super deal, but it was a fair price for what is now my favorite freight mover. Along with my Metroliners, this is as far as I'm going outside of my era.

This part of my “recent” haul isn’t all that lately. Over the summer, I picked up another set of Lionel 18” aluminum passenger cars which I finally got a chance to unpack and get on the rails - I think these are becoming an addiction . This is a Lionel 4-pack of PRR Trail Blazer cars. They have a beautiful paint scheme and they are quite heavy.

And being on a Pennsy kick of late, I couldn’t pass up the recent Vision Horse Car!!! It is a nice match to the Trail Blazer cars since it is 19”.

In my little fantasy world, the Pennsy never got rid of the LIRR, so it would be perfectly feasible to have an LIRR C Liner pressed into service pulling the Trail Blazer back to New York with a load of horses destined for Belmont Park!!! (Sorry… no time to pull out one of my Pennsy engines).

Santa has a few things on his sleigh for me.  I went to Berwyn Toy Trains and got some cars.  I also ordered a few new engines, Canadian Pacific Military, the Santa Fe F7 yellow bonnet, as well as a NYC C-Liner.  Lionel had a caboose that matched a BNSF 25th anniversary engine I purchased previously.  I also purchased a CP military caboose, just released.

There's an antique store near me that got a large collection of modern O gauge in recently. I saw they had a ton of Halloween cars in the last time I visited and decided to check them out earlier today to see if they had any Christmas stuff as a part of it. This Railking Christmas Express Hudson was one of the many Lionel/MTH Christmas trains they had for sale, and for $180 for a Proto 2 DCS engine I could not say no. Other than me needing to reset the engine to get the headlight to work and the smoke unit being spotty at low speeds on DCS it's functioned perfectly over the 4 or so hours I had it running today at the River City 3 Railer's holiday display. This was 100% an impulse buy but it was so worth it.

Great buys fellows and @Frank Razz, wow, that’s a beautiful pink ES44 diesel and we should be thankful for all of the hospitals that help Cancer patients, St. Jude in Memphis Tennessee is such a wonderful group of doctors/nurses/surgeons.  Now, I finally started un-packing my new Sante Fe F7 AA Lionel legacy diesels. In the next few hours I’ll show the B units. The AA set came programmed Eng1, Eng 99 and worked right out of the box. R40 A Train set

Love it Corey. All that’s missing is a little Duke Ellington 🎼 🎶 Looks like you also have a B line set - traveled that line many, many times. When they were delays on the line and the cars were PACKED, if you were lucky enough to be standing on the platform where the space between two slant fronts stopped, we’d push the bars on the slant ends open and ride on the fairly spacious platforms between the cars. Might not have been too safe, but it was exciting!!!

Well now you fellows are giving me a guilt complex because I haven’t thought much about fallen flags. However I am working on a few PRSL tangents. I picked up some Atlas PRSL passenger cars at a sale. I don’t have a PRSL engine. I ordered two Erie AS-616s from METCA. I am going to ship one right out to Christine to re do it as PRSL. The AS-616 was on the PRSL roster. In the meantime the Holly Beach hobby shop in Wildwood NJ is making a PRSL tank car and some Cape May sand cars. So then I sent a PRR caboose to Christine to also do in PRSL. I also have a steam engine on order from Mr Muffins that I’m waiting for Harry Hienkel to letter PRSL. All because I got a good deal on some passenger cars. 🤪

I've always liked the look of silver trucks and they're pretty easy to remove and paint silver, if the mood strikes you, like I did

with this Legacy MOPAC AA set that originally came with black trucks.

Good thing I got the PE LionChief Plus 2.0 as it's pulling 10 cars now with electrical pickup rollers, that's a lot of drag and it has no problem. My original PE that came with the set would not be able to pull this consist.

Bob, that's known as model train creep -- modest expenditure (~$200-$300) becomes much, much bigger (~$2,000+).  (It's similar to how the Pentagon buys new aircraft, ships, etc. or big public works projects cost 10X more than originally budgeted.)

My buddy did something similiar:  got a super deal on a 4 car set of LIONEL Northern Pacific dome cars N/OB at Spring 2021 York never having owned any NP items previously; and, has since spent thousands acquiring two sets of ABA TMCC equipped F-3 diesels and a mix of 18 or so custom painted, LIONEL, and K-line passenger cars--all because he got a good deal on those first 4 dome cars.

A friend of mine was repainting a set of 607 cars but he needed a roof for the obs. He found an obs with a good roof. Then that obs needed a train. He found a set where the obs roof was good but the car was messed up, so he repainted that set. That went on for a half dozen sets.
