A few days ago when I looked at the Cab3 on the Lionel website i said "sold out".

Not good.  Welcome to the world of produce less and charge more for everything.

That means they are sold out through direct purchase from the Lionel online store. Check with your favorite dealer to see if they have any available. I would also point out that “sold out” suggests that the CAB3 or Base3 is a sales success for Lionel.

Already this thread is deconstructing into yet another variation of the “Has Lionel canceled the CAB-1L remote?” thread that pops up here on OGR every couple of weeks. 😉

I got my cab-1L today... It works. Were they always built this poorly? The case looks almost like it was used, roughed up, stressed plastic marks. The throttle wheel was rubbing on the surface mounted opto, inconsistently so it felt extra cheap. The circuit boards inside looked ok, besides the opto being placed a bit off.

I never handled a cab1 till today, the cab-2 is much much nicer than this thing... For $160 or whatever it went for.. woof. what a disappointment, especially since it's the only option right now.

Some folks may think that the Cab 1L is an all new product, My opinion is it’s a Cab 1 in a different color, no antenna and legacy guts inside. In my honest opinion, it was an attempt to get more folks interested in running their trains in Legacy command at a much lower price to attract a much larger audience. It’s also the last remote Lionel seems to be making that runs TMCC/Legacy, it might control LionChief 2.0, but I do not have any of those engines. If one is not happy with the product, call Lionel Service. By the way, most of my friends have a Cab 1L remote as back up….and they are quality made products.
Happy Railroading Everyone

Put batteries in my new CAB-1L and read the directions.  Luckily, I did not have to sync channels.  My Legacy base was using channel one and the Cab-1L has channel 1 as the default.   The buttons are the same as the original CAB-1. It works and I ran the trains all afternoon.  The one thing I had which worked out even better is the template for the numbered buttons.  I assumed Lionel would send a template in the box.  But if they did, they skipped my box.  Fortunately, I had multiple templates saved and took out a new one.  It matches up with all the Cab-1 actions.

I purchased this because my Cab-2 has been getting a little temperate and because I wanted another remote for the Grandkids.
