Thought this would be a good way to manage cable under and around layout tables and workbenches.

Not bad. But if you hand the binders upside down and later open the to get a wire, won't the whole wire bundle fall out as well? If that's ok then I would wait til Sept when school supplies are being blown out.
Why would you hang the rings upside down??
An idea worth looking into, perhaps improving upon per individual needs and likes. Thanks for the input of new ideas.

How would you hang them the other way, skyhooks?
Hang them sideways (as in the picture) and gravity won't bother us so much. I think its a good idea, and I still have a lot of binders around here (from both work and school) that could be put to better use, rather than just taking up space. I enjoy ideas that allow me to recycle things for other purposes.
I always liked using 2 hole PVC electrical cable clamps, multiple sizes for whatever is needed, they don't tear the insulation off wires like metal ones could, cheap in cost, just buy a contractor bag of them, easily screws into wood easily with all purpose Phillips head screws, and if you need to remove out a wire just disconnect and pull it out or remove one screw to take it out.
I like the idea of the 3-ring binders!
Thank you, M.D.!!! We have scads of them here at work, that the contents are outdated, since all our documentation is digital now!
I think you can buy the same kind of circular split rings separately in different sizes. Then you could hang each ring from a small hook and open it whenever you want to add a wire. Also, the locking fingers in the ring can be positioned at the top just by turning the ring, so that the wires don't fall out when you open it.
Wonderful idea, Thank you, It was interesting to note that my cable management seemed adequate, but as I added a lot of Atlas 6924 Relay boards and dwarf lights the management system became larger.
Plastic cable tray.
The top horizontal tray, above the grey transformer, was replaced with one twice the size.
Note the larger tray
Eventually the system expanded even more.
With the covers installed.
Can you come to my place and do my wiring. Exactly what i always wanted but couldn't get
That's a great idea!
Mike CT, That's a very professional looking job! The plastic wireway duct is something I've used for years at work.
