We seem to be in the summer doldrums of modelbuilding for O Scalers, but we'll test the water by offering our new Cameron Apartments Buildings. Here's what will appear in the website in a couple of days for the 5-story building:

"You are purchasing a professionally made O Scale Cameron Apartments CityScape building that is individually painted and assembled by Todd Architectural Models & Layouts. This building measures 6” deep. This particular building is modeled after an element of a traditional condominium project built in the Washington DC area in the in the mid-2000’s.

Each of our built-up buildings are custom laser cut, assembled and painted. No two are quite the same. The standard building comes with textured brick on the front elevation and a stucco finish on the sides (parting walls) and rear. The standard building comes with no windows on the sides (parting walls) and a combination of windows and doors on the rear. Optional items include brick on one or both sides and rear, and/or a double stack of windows on one or both sides.

This CityScape building, CS-01-5020-BAY, measures 6-3/4” long by 15-1/8” tall. This version follows the original building design, is 5-stories tall and includes a 2-story bay window element between the 3rdand 4thfloors. The bay window extends beyond the main elevation by 5/8”. The marquis style canopy that is over the front door extends beyond the main elevation by 1-5/16”.

Each story is separated by a floor and ceiling, and is individually lit using 5050 Superbrightled LED’s. The rear of the building is removable to allow for aftermarket interior detailing.

The building is constructed of laser scored and cut acrylic plastic, Laserboard and Taskboard, and is professionally finished to be individually unique. Windows are fabricated using two layers of laser cut Lazerboard for sashes and frames. This model features two-tone window frames on the front. Single color windows will be installed on the rear and optional sides. s You may specify clear acetate or translucent white glazing. Fascia and details are built-up acrylic plastic and Lazerboard. Each building is made at ¼” = 1’-0” scale and will be a welcome addition to your O Scale layout.

This building CS-01-5020-BAY is a custom order item unless otherwise noted. Please allow up to four weeks for the custom laser cutting, painting and assembly of your purchase."

The 6-, 7- and 8- story buildings will be described similarly.

The skinny: There are umpteen different combinations of how we can build your building. Choose the one that best fits your CityScape!  This building can be stand alone, on the left or right end of a block or in the middle of a block. Look for more buildings in coming months.

Doug;

Couldn’t find these on your website, so I am responding here... I would like one of the 5-story models with windows on all sides, with lights. As for the finish, I like the “white brick” look on all sides:

I am trying to mimic the Scranton Electric Building (I plan to try and put my Miller Engineering Scranton sign on top).

You’ll have to tell me what the total cost is (you can send me a bill). If possible, I’ll pick it up when I drive down to get my other pieces.

Paul-

What is the street address of the Scranton Electric Building? Just in case someone wanted to do a Google flyover and maybe look at modeling the building. And if’n someone wanted to model the building, does the 8-stories and larger footprint fit on your layout? Lastly, can you take a picture of the Miller sign on top of a ruler?

Doug;

The Scranton Electric Building is located at 507 Linden Street, Scranton, PA 18503. I found this info about the building on the web...

https://www.emporis.com/buildi...ding-scranton-pa-usa

I think the 8-story would look a bit out of place on my layout (even though the actual building is 8 stories). I won't be home till late Monday - I’ll measure the sign then.

Doug;

Just looked at the Miller Engineering web page and they are redoing a limited run of the Scranton sign... the site says it is 4" W x 4.65 T. I’ll measure mine when I get home to insure it is the same size. Here is a pic from their website.

Paul-

Thanks for the pictures! I like the idea of doing the building, but perhaps in a compressed manner. One side actually opens into the building and that creates a whole other challenge to making models the way we do while keeping the cost from being prohibitive the the hobbyist. The round dormers are a nice detail on the side elevation. I’ll mull it over this weekend. Right now I have to get the remainder of our customers into my new contact database and get a mailing out about the new products, and get the Cameron Apartments buildings onto the website.

Doug;

I guess I was unclear... I want one of the Camerons (see my post from yesterday). I plan on using it to mimic the Scranton building - I wasn’t asking for a new model. Sorry for the confusion.

We have completed the 5-, 6- and 7-story inner boxes for the first run. As part of product evolution, we have decided that the "blank" sides of the 6-story building will have windows on the 6th floor, the "blank" sides of the 7-story building will have windows on the 6th and 7th floors, and the "blank" sides of the 8-story building will have windows on the 6th, 7th and 8th floors.

This is a reminder that the preorder 10% discount offered on this post and in our July newsletter is good through Thursday, July 12. All orders are being handled through email or telephone conversation because of the variety of options.

The building on the right end is the CS-02 Pickwick Hotel.

Pricing for CS-02 is as follows:

Basic Building:
$370.00 with individually lit floors and brick on the two fronting sides, plus windows on the 8th, 9th and 10th floors on the parting wall side (does not show on the picture). The rear will have windows, a door and a service door.
Additional Details:
$15.00 additional for brick on each of the rear and parting walls.
$15.00 additional for windows on the entire elevation of the parting wall side.

Here's pictures of the work in progress.

Alan-

We do not have fire escape doors on the upper floors of these buildings- its the climb-through-the-window look, at least for this first run.  The way we have designed our building system, doors can be added if someone so specifies.

All of our buildings will come prelit with each floor individually lit. The pairs of wire come down a styrene chase that is at an inside back corner of the building. Buildings over 8-stories tall will most likely have two chases as the wire bundle becomes too large to fit in one. We have bundled the postive and negative leads into single wire nuts. The purchaser, if they desire, can decide not to have all of the floors lit by just not hooking up all of the positives. If you want to vary your lighting, you could put some postives on a dimmer or perhaps even switch various groupings on and off. Just think of the animation possibilities!

All of our buildings are designed to be placed directly on your layout landscape or hardscape. We have the buildings set up on a 3/4” board in the pictures to space them off of what would be the sidewalk surface because the wire bundles don’t allow the model to sit flat. The wire bundle will need to be fed through a hole in the layout benchwork top. We’ll be providing a template to facilatate correct alignment of the hole(s) on your layout sidewalk hardscape. It is my intetion to have Evergreen Scale Models scored sidewalk styrene sheet product at York in October. Scoring will be a custom run of 1” grid (4’ in O scale) on a 12” x 24” sheet.

The CS-01 Cameron Apartments first run final count is as follows:

CS-01-5 5-story: 2 each with windows on all four sides, 2 each with windows front, right side & rear, 2 each windows front, left side & rear, and 2 each windows front and rear.

CS-01-6 6-story: 1 each with windows on all four sides, 1 each with windows front, right side & rear, 1 each windows front, left side & rear, and 1 each windows front and rear.

CS-01-7 7-story: 1 each with windows on all four sides, 1 each with windows front, right side & rear, 1 each windows front, left side & rear, and 1 each windows front and rear.

To clarifty and confirm, each building has individually lit floors, you specify whether you want clear or translucent windows (no extra charge either way), you specify whether you want stucco (standard) or brick (optional extra) on any or all of the sides or rear walls, and every model is individually laser scored and cut, painted and textured,  and assembled by our shop in New Jersey.

As of this writing, three of the 5-story and two of the 6-story and one of the 7-story buildings are spoken for. Since these models are semi-custom in nature, orders are being taken only by email or telephone call. The run will be deliverable at York in October.

Here’s what complete elevation parts look like for an eight piece run of the 5-story building. We’ll be mounting, priming and painting the cast stone color today. It looks like the run should be ready by Monday. Remember that there are options for windows on all four sides, three sides (front and rear plus either right or left) or just front and rear (for the case when a building is placed mid-block). Call to place your order today!

CS-02 5020- 6"- R1-S2: All four sides of Cameron Apartments 5-story building, 6” deep upgraded from the base version by adding brick on the two sides and rear, plus adding windows to the left and right sides. It is meant to stand alone. There are currently six other variations of the theme available in the first run of the 5-story building. The most basic has brick scored on the rear and stucco on both sides, making it appropriate for placement as an interior building in a block. Each building comes with an aged brass marquis/canopy that slots in between the 1st and 2nd floors. The available models start at $220 and range up to $260 for this version, depending on left and right side finishes. Contact me directly if you are interested in making a purchase!
