Building the D-225 Display Layout, which requires 3 of the Lionel No. 91 circuit breakers. They seem to be impossible to find (I need 3). Can a No. 92 be used instead? Or, any ideas on what else could be used as a substitution?
Not sure of what you are looking for but from what I could gather from instruction sheets for both the 91 is adjustable to open from 1 to 6 amps, it looks as though the 92 is not adjustable. I am not sure if this is any help in what you seek but it is what I found.

I have the #91 breaker, it a magnetic breaker and quite fast. The #92 is a thermal breaker, not nearly as fast. I actually sometimes use the #91 on my workbench, it's way better than the transformer circuit breaker.
There are actually two #91 breakers, the pre-war (left) and the post-war (right).
Lots of 91s on ebay, prewar 91s go for under $20 if you don't get in a hurry. The adjustable postwar 91 brings a considerable amount more. Do a search "Lionel 91" on eBay and click on " save search" and they will email you when new ones are listed. Make sure to check "Price plus shipping, lowest first" before you save your search or you will miss a lot of the best deals in the heads up emails they send you. j
