Can an AIU control a DC magnet?

Good evening, I am contemplating getting an electromagnet and wanting (though not needing) to control it from my AIU. Can I run the magnet with a DC power supply without any problems? Also, if I can't, could someone suggest an electromagnet that will run off of AC and be controllable from an AIU? Thanks,
