Recently got a few Marx and Lionel cars that I would like to use with some AF, as proportions better there. Are Lionel or Marx couplers compatible with AF couplers? I would like to just narrow the wheel sets if I can, by pressing the wheels closer to the center.

A bigger problem than couplers is that, unless the wheel sets are insulated, you will short out with 2 rail track. If one or both wheels are plastic, you may be okay.
The couplers "may" work, but you may need to do some surgery on them removing or adding a little bit of plastic that will decrease the collectable value of the cars.

They are plastic MPC wheel sets, off of an EL 9043 boxcar.
Picture of the converted trucks. I filed the knob out of the Marx coupler, slid the wheels in on the axle, and made what appears to be a decent S gauge truck. Am uncertain as to comparability with AF couplers however.
