What's happening with Korber Models? I thought I read where Justtrains were offering items, but their website doesn't list it. Any info is appreciated.
Thanks,
RWH (Bob)

Rich883 on forum bought them. Will be releasing them.
Good News.

Thanks Rich for the update. I really appreciate the information and will be in touch.
Bob
Good luck Rich. I read were some of the older molds Korber was using had become worn and it caused some of the fit issues people has started to experience. Now that is just what I read, and I have no first hand Korber kit experience.
Rich will that possibility be addressed going forward both for it's validity, and if need be, some improvement?
Bob
Hi Bob,
We will be looking over the models, and making improvements where we can.
The masters are included in most of the models, so there may be a possibility of making new molds from those if needed, we really need to dig thru the inventory to get a good handel on it.
Thanks for the questions.
That is great news.
Thanks for asking this question as I wondered....I ordered Pickle Factory kits, more
than one, I needed to build a large six story bldg. Delaware? said they would include
extra walls and parts as they had one less kit than I needed to kitbash this thing, and extra parts they'd throw in. The extra parts weren't included and I had to do a lot of extra sawing and gluing to create a bldg. narrower than I wanted. They
were obviously getting out of that business.
Good news Rich, Joe Fauty of Model Structures is near completion of assembling and detailing three Kober Buildings and a bunch of Fronts for me. A much compressed Textile Mill Building and Cotton Warehouses, Powerhouse, etc. Kober is excellent for the industrial and commercial buildings we need and Im already planning more including a good many Fronts.
Much sucess in your new venture--I believe you have very good market potential!
My only "complaint" about the Korber bldgs. Was the windows, Grandtline, they were made for woodframed bldgs, not masonry. And they were usually too small for the openings.
Check on that for me, Rich.
HI Vulcan,
Not sure of the source of the windows, there are bins and bins of them so I will be using inventory for sometime. Some injection molded items with Korber are Korber owned molds, which come with the purchase. I need to dig through the boxes and the inventory to get a better handle on things.
The roundhouse windows are made from a vacuum formed plastic and paint. These don't fit so well, and are not as crisp as could be.
I am looking at replacing these with some other methods.
Don't forget to head to the web site to take the survey, and to sign up to get updates as we bring things back on line.
Thanks for the comments guys.
Best regards
Thanks for the suggestion, I will look again, but they , I beleive are too large for the openings.
The window openings on the roundhouse are about 2.7/8" for the smaller windows, and about 5" for the larger ones.
Best regards
I am starting my 5th or 6th Korber Kit and the first (I believe) made by Justrains (that I have built). It is the 1930's style switch tower. I say made by Justrains based on the material that the wall sections are molded with. If this is an indication of what the "revamped" Korbor line will consist of then I for one cannot wait for the kits to start showing up. The castings are clean with no flash in the window/door openings. The wall sections are fairly flat and will require minimal bracing. The windows literally "snap" into the window openings. If this is an older kit I got real lucky but as I said based on previous builds I find it hard to believe that this is the "same" Korber.
Rich...if this is an indication of kits to come then congratulations. I believe that if Korber kits can all made to the quality level you will have a winner on your hands.
Thanks Strogye, I hope you enjoy building the kit.
There are two types of materials used in some of the Korber Models. Ones like the Switch tower were originally build by the original Korber Models, and are made using injection plastic molding. These offer a crisp definition of the lines and windows.
Other kits, like the roundhouse, and Power Company are made of a poured urethane product. The molds are different construction, the injection molding being very costly to make, and optimal for large production runs, and the poured mode ideal for smaller batches.
The urethane compound has changed and improved over time, with older kits being dimensionally less stable, and with a smell, and the newer kits using a superior compound that alleviates these issues.
There are detail parts that are made of injection molding such as windows that are used in the poured mold kits, and some newer laser cut items.
We will be using all of the above processes in the kits we will offer, moving what we can to newer production methods to offer a solid and simple to build product.
Thanks for your interest, and we hope to make these something that can really be a nice addition to your layout.
Great products all start with good customer/user feedback and ideas.
Regards
