Hello everybody,

I am in the process of my first electric Railroad Company wiring. I have an AC Commander for Lionel mohawk 6 - 1 800 9 from the late 80s with a pullmore original type motor. I tore all the original Electronics out of the mohawk and rewired the AC Commander. When trying to run it I get nothing. Everyone seems to think it is wired correctly. I took it to a local hobby shop today and he advised that the motor is not getting power for some reason? I checked continuity to all the wires from the motor to the AC Commander module and everything checks okay. Also checked power from the center pick up of the engine to the negative ground on the AC Commander module and I get correct voltage from the Transformer. I am wondering if I cut too many wires or didn't attach them correctly his reason why the motor is not getting power. Could somebody please advise what in the world I did and what I could do to get the motor running. Please take a look at the pictures which was show my wiring.

Thank you very much, Jerry

In picture #1 you have a black wire on the #2 brush...Does this have continuity with the #2 brush terminal on the AC Commander board. As a matter of fact, check all or your wires for continuity, from the AC Commander terminals to the motor terminals. You may have something cross wired. Also, make sure you have a good ground between the chassis and your Capacitor grounds. Is your caps in backwards? You need to observe the polarity on the caps. I also see in your #3 picture, that you grounded one side of the AC input to the tender chassis. Are you getting a good continuity check through the chassis to the outside rails? Put a volt meter on the 2 AC terminals on the AC Commander board with the power on, You should have 18 volts there. When I did my conversion I changed the forward tender truck so I had power coming in on the tender.

I'm at work now but if you would like I can post up a picture of my engine for reference. I've done quite a bit of work to my engine though....    Here's a link to my conversions,  https://ogrforum.com/...-6-18011-mods?page=1

Its a pretty straight forward install. the only issue is making sure you get through the tether correctly.

Post up what you find.

Good luck.

Found your problem!    You need to add a wire from your right side Capacitor ground to the upper right field terminal. Your field isn't grounded. It's an incomplete circuit.

My blue wire (AC COM)  goes to the motor brush on the right, white wire.  **Note** My brush wires in the picture are backwards on the AC COMM board.***

My green wire (center, AC COM) goes to the center field terminal on the motor, black wire.

My yellow wire (AC COM) goes to the motor brush on the left, yellow wire.   **Note** My brush wires in the picture are backwards on the AC COMM board.***

I didn't find this out about my brush wires until after I took these photos.

Red and Black wires (AC COM) go to my tender rear truck assembly for track power.

The order is, left to right:     Red, Black, Yellow, Green, Blue.  Sorry for the confusion.

Notice in the second and third photos. There is a black wire that connects the right field terminal to the right screw. This is where the original ground wire was, that locked out the forward and reverse functions by moving the black plug from inside the cab.

Hope this helps...Let us know.....

This is what you are after. The ground is at the bottom of the drawing.
