I would like to put a canopy/roof over my REA loading dock area. I have noticed that the older buildings use support rods anchored to the building and canopy. I was wondering if anyone has does this with their buildings and what suggestions they might have. Thanks !

Canopy is metal foil. Under the foil is a piece of styrene for structure. The supports are just wire. Drilled a hole in the side of the building, and a hole in the foil, bent the end that went into the building and glued both ends in. It’s mainly decorative, there is a plastic strip on the building that the support under the roof is glued to that’s actually holding the roof on. I trust those rods are doing about 10% of the actual holding of the roof in place.

On my layout I have a small (6" sq.) building that I used jewelry chain purchased at Michae'ls. I drilled small holes in both the roof and sidewall and used small cotter pins to secure the chain. Hardest part for me was placing the cotter pin through the end of the chain.
I use stranded jewelery cable from a Craft Store
