Anyone here done the mentioned conversion? How did it go? Are you pleased with the outcome? Did you keep the original sounds or use the ERR sound board?

I did a similar conversion on a Convenetional claassics GG!, didn't have sound but runs real well, connect the antenna wire to pantograph to get signal..\

If Lionel doesn't do a traditional GG1 in the LionChief + line pretty soon, I'm probaby just going to get a Williams or MTH version, which already has can motors, and add ERR cruise commander to it. Seems much simpler than remotoring a Lionel one.
I'd go for the one that already has can motors. By the time you buy all the electronics and upgrade the motors, you have a lot of money tied up in this conversion.

I agree with John. There are other choices and it's simply not worth the time or expense to convert to can motors. A Williams GG-1 is pretty much bulletproof and to add ERR to it you would have a very nice running engine. If you prefer or also run DCS you could add sound and command control with a DCS conversion kit to any can motored engine.
I did the scale GG-1 from Williams, super runner. G
I upgraded this one to TMCC with ERR stuff. Picked this up NIB for $120 at York.
