BTW: plastic screening works much better than metal.  It is true that tulle fabric is more to scale, but, depending on your goals, it is sometimes visually better to make tiny features larger than scale. For example, I like to make bricks about 50% too large. There is an interesting analogy from typography: Small point sizes of a font are not just smaller versions of large point sizes. Fine features such as serifs need to be exaggerated to get the same visual effect. The same principle applies to modeling, especially for models intended to be viewed from a distance.  But, I digress...

If you want/need a thinner post (residential rather than industrial, etc.) you’ll find 21-gauge head pins in the craft aisle of most stores. Add a silver-colored seed bead for the top (if you don’t need a bunch, most crafters have leftovers.) Packets of straight floral wire are easy to work and good for framing when you don’t want the more solid, industrial look.
