I've used kitchen tongs to hold small parts from the inside but needed more tension.
I bought a cheap pair of tongs at the Dollar Store. pulled out the plastic blades. (too slick to hold plastic)
Drill two holes though the base and added an 1/8" screw and nut.
Bought two toilet paper rollers for a buck. Installed the spring inside the tongs around the bolt.
Seems to hold OK.
Will add foam to tips for better fictions grip.

More sophisticated than anything I use! I just have a hunk of 2x4 set up on end screwed to a bit of 1x6......
