I am refurbishing a chrome plated AF 466 Comet. All of its markings except for a small "466" on each side were previously removed. It is hard to tell if the 466's are decals or stickers. The Comet emblem on the nose and the Comet marking on each side are missing. Both are available in decal and sticker form. Should I use decals or stickers to redecorate this PA unit? How can you tell which it should get? Thank you.

I have only seen the heat stamp version in silver paint.

Both of my Comet silver painted engines have decaled noses. Not sure about the sides but certainly not stickers. Stickers were never used on anything until the NP, UP, MP diesels and only on the nose.
I have both types chrome and painted. I looked and both have decals. This makes your work easier.
Thanks for your helpful replies. Apparently Type 1 (chrome) 466's were all decal decorated as were Type 2 (satin). Type 3 satin had "stamped lettering". It is not clear, however, if that means just the "American Flyer Lines" lettering was stamped or everything on the side including the 466 and Comet with a falling star. Does anyone know? There is also some variation in the font style and size with Type 1 having slightly large AFL letters and a different 466 than Type 2. In any case I'm looking to redecorate this Type 1 with a complete set of nose and side decals - font nuance aside unless choice presented.
Have a Happy Fourth!
Just looked at mine. Side lettering is heat stamped, nose is decaled.

Thanks Rich. So is everything on the side stamped - American Flyer Lines, 466, and Comet with shooting star? Only the nose logo is decal. Thanks.
Correct.

Thanks Rich. I appreciate your clarification and verification of that. I'm going to make note accordingly in my reference materials. Happy Fourth of July!
