borderman,

I started painting the city buildings for a backdrop. (The ones to the left of Kong) They fit in pretty well with the fantasy aspect of King Kong and Superman, but were not big on realism, at least not with my level of talent and patience.

I did better with a photo background I made. I started with photos of various skylines and individual buildings printed on heavy 8 1/2"x11" paper on my regular printer.

I cut buildings out individually, gave the more distant ones a light gray spray to dull the colors, and then glued them collage-style on the backdrop behind some building flats.

This scene has three actual building flats - the rest are photos.
