Chris, in NY, I've had luck with hotels around the Bowery/ Chinatown area. I've stayed at the Hanbee (Best Western), very nice, and sometimes less than $200. Stayed there 3 times, also great food in the area.

Also, if you decide to go via Harrisburg train station, the GG1 is worth seeing.

Chris I can drive you the hour south to Baltimore and you can take the train to NY from there my friend. As to hotels there good luck lol!

Why would you want to stay in Jersey if you are visiting Manhattan. I would think you would want to stay in midtown Manhattan. Chris, try Trivago & put in NY Hilton midtown @ 53 rd st & (ave of the Americas) 6th ave, see what you get. It is the best location in NY. I believe you can a room there for around $200.-$250. If you are lucky.

Chris, The Hilton Garden Inn near Central Park is offering a Groupon on Expedia for $99/night. That a good location and super low price. Good luck.
