I purchased the Texas Special set 6-31755 yesterday.  It was new and got a great deal since they said the powered unit did not work.   Took it home and the powered unit works fine.  On the observation car there is cloudy spots in most of the plastic window strip. I can’t feel it on either side so i am not sure if there are two pieces of plastic that were laminated together and the clouds are inside  the two.  I tried a  q tip and some water just to see if any would come off and nothing.  Not sure if anyone has seen this.  If i need to replace the plastic window strip what would people use assuming they are not available from Lionel.

Thanks

Tony

The last time I ordered (Edit) they are a very, very, very,  light green tint. Not clear (colorless), but not obstructive either.

However- this is Lionel and sourcing obviously subject to change.

the picture shown had the protective film on them. Again, actual tint is just enough to say "tinted", but enough to even remotely begin to block the view.

I want them to match the newer heavyweights.  From the last couple years, I have the Hobo and PolEx sleeper add-ons and the Friendship heavyweights. The windows in them is noticeably clearer than the original black roof PolEx cars. Given the cost is so minimal, it may be worth buying a few to check it out. How long are the strips?

16 inches by 1.5 inches tall

Thanks all, mine have a green tint.   I will order some strips and see if they work.  The glue issue makes sense.  I know that when  they are looking for fingerprints on plastic they use super glue and the fumes make the prints show up, at least according to the TV show forensic files.  On my four cars two are perfect, one has just a spot or two and the observation car has a ton.

Vernon, do you know if these window strips are clear or green tinted?  This same part number shows up on the newer heavyweights which now have clear windows. I’m looking for clear replacements for my black roof PolEx heavyweights - the green tint is so dark in them the interiors are meaningless.

You don't have to use Lionel's overpriced plastic, there are tons of cheaper alternatives.

For less than $20 total, including shipping, I bought these: 12 pieces Clear Transparency Sheet 12 × 12 inch (12-6 mil) and used this 0.25"/6mm×2 Permanent Clear Double Sided Adhesive Tape to install the windows I cut out, they worked perfectly.  I did the same thing you did, went to all clear as I had some clear and some tinted, and all spotted!

I have enough window material to do 50-60 cars, and that includes the DS tape to install them.
