I recently purchased the Coaster Dynamic Bumper Car Kit at York in October. I have dissembled all of the wood-cut-out pieces from the kit boards. I wish to paint or stain the some of the pieces before assembly, other pieces I think will be assembled first and then painted. Wondering if anyone has done this, any tips, and what type of paint or stain was used? The wood has a finish or texture of similar to a balsa type wood. Hobby Lobby sells a multi-color water soluble crayon set...you rub the crayon on a porous surface and then use a brush with water to create a "staining" effect. Not sure if this would work? Any recommendations would be appreciated. It is part of my effort to create a "Conneaut Lake Park (Pa.) Amusement Park on my layout. They had at one time "The "Dodgems"....(what Coastrer Dynamix calls "Bumper Cars". I am going to create a custom sign (Dodgems) to cover the Bumper Cars engraving. Thanks very much.
