We often see questions asking 'Which is scale?', 'Can I put them side by side?' etc.  These photos compare the       Ertl semi side by side to a Berkshire Valley assembled kit.  Please feel free to post any you have comparing O gauge items.    John in Lansing, ILL

John, have not contacted you in a while, hope all is well with you and your wife, the ETRL Pacemaker trailer and tractor seams to be S(1/64) Scale, the Berkshire Pacemaker trailer visual size seams to be O(1/48 ) Scale. Good visual size comparison between S and O Scale, I also have an assortment of 1950's Etrl S Scale tractors and trailers Etrl in the past produced many of these tractor-trailer combinations in 1950's graphics..

John, to save space I removed these tractor trailers from their individual boxes years ago, they were purchased 10 to 15 years ago. Looking at your first picture and the O Scale Pacemaker trailer on the flat car, the width of the tractor seams close to the trailer width also the tire diameters in comparing both trailers seam close in size. The Ertl I have is not O scale but S Scale, the tractors and trailers are well detailed but definitely undersized in comparison to an O scale automobile. I checked Die Cast Direct web site this evening and they list both Ertl tractor trailers in O and S Scales. Trailers in the 50's varied in length, the shorter length Pacemaker trailer could be for a shorter length trailer, the two Pacemaker trailer widths seam close in size but their is definitely a major difference in the height of both trailers.  In conclusion, you may have a O scale tractor trailer as marked on the box.

Regards,

John

I have seen that partcular trailer most oftern with the Ford 1934 tractor.   It is implied to be a model of a trailer from the 1930s when they tended to be 25-30 feet long.   If you notice the width is very similar to teh Berkshire Valley version.     That paint scheme on the Ertl is probably modeler's license.

The tractor looks like one the ertl 1:43 tractors they did.    I don't know if they did it in S also or not.
