Anyone know a cheap convenient way you could convert AC current out of an old Lionel PowerMaster (1st Generation gray base) into DC current for Cab-1 conventional control of a silent HO or G Scale train?

Would be nice. It isn't worth anything, and doesn't run MTH stuff well at all, but I'd love to get some usefulness out of it again, and I have a nice Christmas G-scale set (and HO test track) that might put it to good use. I'd love to run that stuff with my Cab-1 walk-around. Thanks.

Ok, since I am a little confused as to what the OP wants, I will propose two ways to solve this problem.

First, the conventional way. Try the Lionel AC to DC converter box designed for G scale.

Next, the command way. Tmcc CAN run on DC (aka fullwave rectified AC) as seen in this Lionel G scale diesel manual, page 8.

Let us know what route you want to go.

Thank you, I will look for that little ac to dc converter box if I can find it for about $15 or less. All I need, just a simple power converter. I don't really need direction control from the remote, so the switch is fine. I just wanted to have a way to run the train, in the forward direction, speed up or slow down anywhere in the house with the same remote I run my O gauge AC stuff on - just flip back and forth easily, and it gives keeping my old PowerMaster merit, because it isn't worth a **** otherwise.
