I bought one of the lionel century club PT tenders. I have not taken it apart yet. Can I use the existing Tmcc in it and convert it to a wired tether or does it require the loco," Kline Scale Hudson", to have the lionel motor driver and IR unit installed that is customary to these systems  ? I can junk the Lionel guts and put in an ERR system.

You would need a new motherboard and tether for the tender if you wanted to keep the RS5 boards in the tender. The problem with that setup is the tender has engine specific sounds as it was made for the 5429 ESE engine. You could also put an ERR RS board in the tender but you will have to add connectors for the markers and backup light.

Lastly the tender will have to get relettered as both the number and font style do not match.

BTDT and ended up getting an MTH J1e with PT tender. The tender is a almost a drop in for the Lionel J3s as only the font and number does not match.
