I haven't seen this asked here, on my GG-1 it came with the original copper Brushes, if there in good shape should I use
them or put the new Carbon type in. I'm sure the copper would give it more power or not.

Both are graphite based, one has copper in addition to the graphite. It conducts electricity better but also causes more wear on the commutator it rubs against, aka the brushes "last" longer but at the expense of additional wear on the part they are rubbing against. Graphite will conduct but not as well as a copper graphite mix and it has lubricating properties. It will require more frequent cleaning and changing as it's softer and more prone to wear.
I have some original copper colored postwar Lionel brushes in my parts bin. I use the grey-black graphite ones because they are softer.
