I've wanted this Ertl Cruisin Series model for quite awhile now. I finally bit the bullet and paid a little too much for a "collectable" to cut up. I thought about just scratch building something like this, but I already have too many projects in the wings. Some of which I have to build if I want. Anyone familiar with this will notice right off I cut off the street. Oops there goes any resale value. I also removed the back and added a couple of wide bright white lights to the ceiling. They make a little plastic snap ring to mount these 5mm lights in a panel. Well the wide white 5mm is flat and when you put it into the ring it looks just like a can light with a trim ring. I also wanted a lighted sign, but didn't want the exterior floods on the sign. I just haven't perfected a way to make those to suit me yet. So I made a sign in Photo Shop, printed it on transparency film and used one of Lee's 12v 3 light units. Thanks again for that tip Lee. I added a few interior details, shifter and aircleaner on counter. A racing tire and wheel in the window, as well as some chrome headers. Also in the corner is a blown race motor on a stand. Maybe the "RAT" standing in front and the custom on top of the sign will give a clue as to which Ed I was thinking of when I did this.

Among other strange things Ed liked to do, he would wear a top hat and tails at the car shows. Artista makes a ring master figure, (which I have already ordered). A little touch up, goatee, and repaint pants to black, and I'll have a perfect Ed, (Big Daddy), Roth figure for in front of the shop. Top hat in hand waving in the potential customers.

Hope you enjoyed. Side note, I wish I could figure out how to get pictures of the lighting in the dark. I've done it before, but do not remember camera setting, or what and how much, if any, back light I used. If anyone can chime in on this I would appreciate it.

Thanks Guys. Ertl did most of the work. I just tweaked it a bit. But it freed me up today to start on the Ghost Buster's Fire House. I really need to finish a couple more. I guess I tend to bounce from one thing to another, and finally come back to finish one. Today I'm mostly trying to keep my mind occupied. My Son, Daughter-in-law, and 2 grand kids moved out. It's day 2 without Charlie, my almost 5 year old, grandson. We have been joined at the hip for the better part of 3 1/2 years. I keep waiting for him to get home from pre-school, and then I remember he isn't coming home, at least to this one.................

That was a slick idea for a different type of business for your layout.

It was an easy choice for me. The hardest part is finding enough different type of old hot rods to populate the layout. Stock is easy, customs and hot rods require more searching, and then still reworking them so you have multiples but not all the same. If you get my meaning.

I first saw this a couple of years ago. Really loved it. Passed on a couple, then just couldn't find one. I was going to duplicate it, scratch, then happened on this one. I paid a little too much, since I was going to cut it up some, but still probably would have cost me as much or more to build it. Thanks for the compliment. It did also come with a fairly nice Shelby 500 too.

It's 1/43. It came with 2 figures inside which are ok but a little large. I got my ringmaster to make a "Big Daddy" Roth and it's gonna look funny in front of the door (scale) relative to the 2 figures inside. I may look at removing and replacing those figures. If they won't come out easy, they're in front of counters, I will probably move Ed away from front of door, and maybe have him standing on a crate, that way, (hopefully) he won't look too small relative to the inside figures. And yes will stock the Smitty's as well as some (old stock) flathead parts. In my mind this is early 60's, so OHV parts are going to be the current HOT movers.............
