I wired in an LED between the two posts of an off/on switch. The intent is to have the LED illuminate when the toggle is in the ON postition and extinguish in the OFF position. Just the opposite happens. How do I get the LED to illuminate in the ON position.
The circuit I'm working with operates as it should using the OFF/ON switch.
My (diminished) logic tells me the LED is acting like a by-pass when the switch is in the OFF position...but why wouldn't the LED illuminate in the ON position???

The LED will not illuminate when on because when the switch is in the on position both sides of the switch are at the same potential (meaning they are exactly the same voltage and polarity). To make the LED light when the switch is in the on position the LED needs to be wired from the Switched side of the switch to ground if you're switch the positive side of the circuit. If it is an AC circuit to the other side of the transformer.
