Crossing gates control- 3 rail | O Gauge Railroading On Line Forum

I am currently controlling my crossing gates via infrared sensor, but since the gates

operate on timing, the gates may go up and down too late or early based on the speed of the trains. Is there a way to control the gates by the location of the train on the track so that the gates stay down until the entire train has passed the crossing regardless of the train speed???

The easy way would be with two IR sensors, one on each side of the crossing.

Or the classic insulated track section works fine as long as your car's wheels are steel.

Thanks for the help on the 3-rail crossing gate issue. Not sure which I will try,

but I think I am going to figure out how to do the block section. Also, thanks for

the website which shows how to make the block.
