I just came up with something that may be old hat to many of you but not to me.  I need to do a lot of cutting of foam board and am going to order a hot wire cutter with extra wire so I can shape some custom cutters.  However I wanted to get started and had many straight cuts to make.  I took what I call a shoe knife (used by cobblers to trim the leather on the outside of new soles) and my torch.  I heated the knife blade about 6 seconds and was able to make a very smooth 4' cut in a 2" thick foam board like cutting soft butter.  I also found out you can do some sculpturing with it.

A lots less expensive than a hot wire cutter!

As a Newbieeee, I looked at lots of forums and local craft shops. I ended up buying a $19.00 Hot Knife at Harbor Freight. It has been a dream for me. It even has Selectable Heat Ranges. No Mess, No Vacum, just a little smell that a scented candle took care off.

Great for cutting and sculpting.
