We are brand new to hobby. Will a CW 80 run 2 rail HO trains?

Your HO 2 rail uses DC (Direct Current). Lionel 3 rail system runs on AC (Alternating Current). They are not compatible.
Darn, Steims you beat me to it. All the two rail smaller gauges run on D.C. Power packs. The CW 80 and others are A.C. Transformers and will not work with your H.O. Trains.
