i bought a used DCS system and the aiu has 2 wires for each switch on each terminal (looks like phone wire). And reason for this? Thanks for sharing your knowledge

Perhaps one wire went to the switch itself, and the other wire went to the manual lever controller...thereby allowing either manual or DCS remote command control?
Here's the direct link to the AIU manual PDF.
I thought the question was why there might have been 2-wires coming from each AIU SW(itch) terminal.
I was merely speculating that since this was a "used" AIU, the previous owner snipped the wires near the AIU...and that for each terminal, 1 wire went to the switch itself...and the other wire went to a momentary SPDT (ON)-OFF-(ON) toggle switch or a switch lever-controller.

I believe you have discovered the solution. All wire were cut at termination as you surmised. I appreciate all the help.
The AIU is simply switches with NO and NC terminals . Why are you adding a switch on top of a switch?
Apparently to switch by hand as the mth controllers. The board I bought has the TIU and 2 AIUs and 4 transfer switches. No sign of toggles or rockers.
MTH switch controllers can be wired in parallel so you can operate by the remote (or App) or the controller.
