Bought an MTH Wi-Fi DCS unit today. I have an older TIU which has been upgraded to 5.0. Had problems initially getting any engines to load into the app but eventually I was successful. Ran a train for about 20 minutes and after shutdown it jumped into inactive mode. I then had to delete the engine from the inactive list to re-activate it. This happened pretty much most of the night. On another track I had a different engine which was much harder to activate and re-activate. Most of the time I had zero communication through the app with it. I downloaded the firmware version 1.1 a service tech at MTH told me may help. I couldn't tell if the download took and the performance of the app keeping my trains active did not change. Any suggestions? Also I did buy the $4.99 upgrade for the app too.

Once the engines are ADDed, there is no need to delete and readd. Simply force a READ until they become active (upper left hand corner circle).
If an engine is in the Inactive list (it goes there automatically when you start the app unless it's on a powered track), just give it power and select it in the Inactive list to move it to the Active list.
Alternatively, give it power before you start the app.
This and a whole lot more is all in “The DCS Companion 3rd Edition!" This book is available from many fine OGR advertisers and forum sponsors, or as an eBook or a printed book at OGR’s web store! |
If possible, try powering your TIU using the AUX Power Input from a separate power source as opposed to using the transformer used to run your trains to power the TIU at the Fixed Voltage IN1. I had the same issues as you with engines always going to the inactive list every time I powered down, I would have to cycle power to the WiFi module to get the engines to go back to the active list.
With the TIU constantly powered from the separate power source I don't have that issue.

Thanks Joe. I will try this. I have a separate power source but it is on a power strip wich I turn off with my transformers. I will move it to an outlet that stays powered. Appreciate the help!!

That's unnecessary. Further, its not wise to have the TIU powered 24 X 7 while unattended.
Did you read my post above?
Barry, No I hadn't seen or read yours. Went from my email right to the latest post and didn't even realize there were two earlier posts. I will do as you suggest..thanks!
How do you move an engine from the inactive list to the active list with out deleting the engine and then trying to add the engine? When in the app, tapping the inactive engine from the list doesn't do anything. The only function I can accomplish is deleting the engine then adding it all over again. I must be doing something wrong. Any help would be great!!
Gerry,
Using my Android device, while at the top of the engine list screen, I swipe down on the screen and it will initiate a read and move any inactive engines to the active engine list if found.

Thanks H1000..I realized another member posted this info too. I will try that tonight...appreciate your help!
Everything is working much better but not perfectly. TIU is on a separate power device and I have power to the track before opening the app. The only problem is when I try to "run my trains" every engine is in inactive mode. I then touch "read" which leads to "request timed out". I then must disconnect the cable between the TIU and the WiFi device to restore communication. Happens almost every time at startup. Any suggestions?
I have TIU & WIFI how do I move from inactive list and move to inactive. I couldn’t find the answer in rhe DCS book.
