if you have time and are willing to take some time.  a place I know of is real deal do not know if you have one or not.  but in my area there are a few and they get 2 packs for a buck.  it took me about a year to find them but saved my self a lot of cash.  you could try there website that may help.  good luck.

I'm going to be testing a setup next weekend assuming the parts all arrive.   I paid $2.00 for the (large) led's prewired, and $10.00 for a 3-Volt transformer.   Going to try the terminal block approach first to see what happens.  Assuming it goes according to plan, I will report back with my findings.  

I think the original poster is looking for 110 volt LED bulbs that will fit the C7 screw socket

used by Lemax and Dept 56.

That bulb would cost $5 to $10 online.

The cheapest close bet would be C7 style LED Christmas Lights, a 25 light string is about $16 online, less than $1 a bulb.

I did find a vendor with c7 bulbs for about $1.50 + shipping.

that's a good thought. I never looked at the strings. Sometimes they put the voltage control molded into the line just before a bulb. I wonder if it's all in the base now? We'll be out this weekend, I take a look.

Most of the original lights are 7 watt. The OGR article in DEC 14, stated the author used .6 watt led replacements. These just screw into the same base. I have found .4 watt and .5 but I'm not sure if these are bright enough.

The C7 led light sets that I checked out today are not a screw base bulb. They also appear to have some type of voltage or current control molded in line.

I did light up several warm white sets and the colors are better, closer to incandescent, but still a touch bright.

This supplier has them at 1.83@ for a 25 count case + shipping. C7 includes it's own driver.

As an aside, I was able to start early on my LED project.   I was able to wire high intensity "chip" lights to a 3-Volt transformer through a terminal block successfully.  The light output is superb and the connecting wires are so thin you can barely see them.  There is an option to chain the lights via three way connectors, but I already had hte block.  I got the kit here:

They are pretty well known for having some nice solutions for passenger cars, which I will pursue as my next lighting project.   

Last year I purchased packages of led replacement lamps for C-7 type7-1/2 watt bulbs. They were sold at Walmart. Very reasonably priced too. Somewhere on this forum there should be a thread on this same topic from that previous discussion providing of course that this forum archives rather than purges "old" threads. 

This one is $28.00 for a box of 25.  That's $1.12 per bulb.  They use 120VAC and have built in drivers.

This one is a little brighter but it is $45.25 for a box of 25 - $1.81 each.  It also uses 120 VAC with its own driver.

It looks like Sylvania 78563 0.6 Watt Accent LED C7 Night Light Bulb may be the solution.

Its 110-120V AC.

Wow, that one is pretty pricey at $5.44 per bulb.  That would be $136.00 for 25 bulbs.

Why would you need 25 bulbs for a Dept 56 building?

I've got 44 buildings at last count.  The incandescent night light bulbs add up on the power draw, plus they can get hot.

What John23 said. CP Bob that started this thread has a hundred buildings. It's not that nice of a bulb.

Gentlemen,

    It may just be me but I like the traditional bulbs in my layout homes, its just part of the Christmas feel I guess.  Even with the 50 plus houses I had on our multi level layout, I used the original style lighting, yep it does get warm and costs money to run, but I like it any way.
