Nice photo, Mike.

In a way, I suppose we're trying to re-create those places we imagined our Christmas trains were traveling to on those simple sheets of plywood . I would imagine the towns, cities, and mountains my train would travel through, when in fact it was but a 4' x 6' piece of plywood painted green, with a few cardboard structures and trees, and perhaps some green plastic army figures. The Evergreen tree in all its splendor standing to the side added the magic. The adventures were wonderful, and perhaps as an alleged adult I am trying to build those places in my basement

Thanks for the kind comments guys.

John, in truth that picture was taken on Christmas Day 2014 and those little girls (my granddaughters) have all grown to be "young ladies" now.  Time flies. Also, by the next Christmas there indeed was a third loop of track with a Liberty Limited/Stephen Girard set running on it. It was immediately adopted by the youngest of the three.

Paul, your sentiments are spot on and express very well the enduring magic of toy trains, no matter how old we get.

Cheers,

- Mike
