Here's my method for table construction. I have a 24 X 24 room with the stairs coming down in the center. So I went with an around the wall layout. I built 8 similar modules that are 4 X 8 composed of plywood top and 4 legs. I cut a 1/4" (actually 5mm ) plywood sheet into six 8" wide strips. I ripped 1 X 2" down the middle to get two 1 X 1" pieces. I then glued one to the edge of a 1/4" plywood strip. This allows me to screw the plywood top from underneath. I cut some of the 8" pieces in half to get 4 foot cross braces and added holes for wire routing. For legs I cut an eight foot  1 X 6" into two 4 foot lengths then cut each diagonally with one end 2" wide and the other end 4". On the 2" end I put a Tnut and a 1/4" bolt for table height adjustment. There's two 8 foot tables end to end across each wall but this leaves a 4 X 4 foot opening at each corner. So I cut another plywood sheet into 4 diagonals ie; cut in half to get two 4 X 4 pieces, then cut each diagonally. This fills the front half of the opening but leaves the back corner open for access. Best part is cost. Not counting the plywood top one sheet of 1/4" was $8. One sheet cut into six 8" strips gives enough pieces for two modules. And one $4 1 X 6 yields 4 legs. So my total cost (20 years ago!) was $30 per module or $240 total. Best part was one the mags bought my construction story and paid me $250.
