Model Railroader magazine just had a brief article in the current issue on "digital cutters", described as like a

digital printer but being able to cut out material, styrene and maybe wood, and strathmore, and useful for decal

making.  Major informatation was omitted..that is, how much did it COST?  Mention was made that ones that

could cut thicker material cost more.  Anybody familiar with or using one of these?

I don't have one.....but the units under $200 range will only cut paper....maybe up to heavy typing paper bond. Anything thicker causes the cutter head to distort as it tries to cut. Also check as to the input file format. If it's a fficial&channel=sb&q=proprietary&spell=1&sa=X&ei=fhueU7uqHI2OyASYsoGIAQ&ved=0CBwQvwUoAA&biw=1280&bih=590">proprietary format you can only use there software.  Once you get into the price range of a machine that will cut thicker material you are getting close to laser cutter price...which is much more versatile.
