Looking to upgrade my PS2 611 to PS3 mainly for better sounds.   I run DCS and have enjoyed the quilling feature in other PS3 steam engines I own.   Would like to hear from someone who owns a PS3 model of the 611 and who has used the playable whistle if there is one.  If so please include the MTH model # in your reply.

Thanks in advance,

Ken

The 611 in the 2020 vol 1 state: "Steaming Quillable Whistle" in the feature list.   It is not due out until December 2020.   Currently there is no .MP3 sample sound file or downloadable PS3 file available under the 'Support" tab on the MTH 20-3773-1 website.   Probably won't until after the engine is released. https://mthtrains.com/20-3773-1

The 2016 catalog version says "- Proto-Sound 3.0 With The Digital Command System Featuring Quillable Whistle With Passenger Station Proto-Effects"  I downloaded the PS3 file from the 'Support' tab on the https://mthtrains.com/20-3630-1 webpage.  I installed this sound file onto my newly installed PS3 board in my upgraded Premier 611 using the MTH DCS Consumer Loader V5.0.  The sounds were good but I was unable to activate the quillable sound function via the DCS Wifi App.   I've used the quillable function via DCS Wifi app on my PS3 Allegheny and 2-8-0 Consolidation.   You know the quillable feature is activated because the rope for the whistle turns purple in the DCS app.

Does anyone have the 2016 20-3630-1 model and have used the quillable whistle?

May have to save up and buy the 2020 version especially if it has the whistle smoke effect.   Looks like it will be the last MTH 611 Class J that will ever be sold :-(

20-3630 thru 32 are PS-3 Premier J files.  Upgrade to PS-32 Steam, leave the PS-32 steam flash code in the PS-32 board and just load the PS-3 sound file.

There also are PS-2 3V with quillable whistle.  You can search on that function, but I am sure you will get too many now that PS-3 out.  BUT you need the flash board with quillable whistle function in PS-2 if I remember.  PS-32 boards and PS-3 boards have that capability inherently.  G
