I can't really tell just by looking - is there a way to get in there to replace the wire(s)?

Yes sir. Work from the bottom. Snaking the replacement wire is only challenge. You will get more technical advice from others. I am somewhat of a novice and I had no problem. That should give you comfort.
It must come apart here is a parts list for it.
Rewiring is easy:
- Remove cap
- Remove bulb
- Feed the wire in the pole, up the pole. This will reveal a fiber washer and spring. You can pull the wire our from the top.
- Unsolder the fiber washer
- Unsolder the other wire from the eyelet
At this point, replace the wires, and assembly is the reverse.
And now I have learned something. Thanks.

Ok - I see now...the contact is just sitting in there - nothing to take apart.
I have a bunch of these that seem like they were just ripped off the layout and have wires that are too short or missing.
Not sure how I missed that - but glad its an easy fix.
